Bret Dowell Knives

After seeing all these nice customs posted lately I thought I'd put one up too. Here's a LC I just finished yesterday. Hope you guys like it. Its headed to a show this weekend to be delivered.

The knife looks great Bret.-

Bret, are you sure my name isn't up next? Just double check for me :) That Lanny's is calling my name big time! Incredible work.

No name. Just a half trapper I guess. That was a custom order. Not sure who I built that for now. I'm sure I could go back through my books and find it though. Nice photo by the way.

Thank you. The blades first made me think it's a "North Fork Jack" but it does not have the dogleg frame.

Bret, do you remember what steel you used for the blades? What does the "0" stand for?
Thank you!

I have one of Brett's "0"s
It means it is the 1st knife built in that pattern, or the 'prototype'. Brett can confirm if prototype is truly accurate, or if it's just the first completed for sale.
I believe the steel in mine is ATS-34. I got it second hand in 2010.
Still carry it quite often

I picked this one up second hand but still in mint condition. Excellent work Bret. It's a great part of my collection. It's the only knife of yours that I own...I'll keep my eye out for another!

Ya Jake, still looks brand new.

Charles, seems like I cut two of those out when I made that knife. I'll have to look. Picked up some real nice little pieces of ivory that I was trying to figure out which knife they would fit on.

Bret you did cut and treat 2 blades, I choose the smaller one. Let me know if you build the other one in ivory as I would be interested.
Charles
