Bret Dowell Knives

I picked this one up second hand but still in mint condition. Excellent work Bret. It's a great part of my collection. It's the only knife of yours that I own...I'll keep my eye out for another!

Wow Jake, that's a keeper, pal.

Not sure that this one has ever been shown here. If it has my apologies.

One of your knives will be arriving today Bret. My very first custom in a simple trapper pattern. I can't wait~

Beautiful fixed blade Brad, saw that one before and the grain is phenomenal

Brad, I agree on the grain, but the grinds are just superb as well, a beautiful knife. What is the steel?

Backstory: I bought this knife secondhand and it was listed as a user in excellent condition. No fault to the seller but the photos did not show the multitude of the scratches on the blade.
A bit disheartened at what was my first custom knife (Everything else on the knife was perfect, snappy walk and talk, perfect pull and flush half stop. Crisp overall as I've come to learn is always the norm of Bret's work). So I called him up, a bit late after hours around 7-8pm EST. He soon returned my call and told me a brief history of the knife (one of the first ten or so he made with unmilled liners) and to just send it into him with the cost of return shipping and he'd fix it up right quick. I sent it in and soon after got in back in today. The scratches gone, the micarta buffed perfectly, basically a new knife. I've never worked with a custom maker before so to receive this level of service from a maker solidifies my belief in custom knives.

Now what you're all waiting for I'm sure, the knife in question.

I'm glad you grabbed that one Tim. Now you'll never say "I wonder how nice that knife would've been to own." Being an earlier knife, having it had the once over by Bret, being a shadow pattern with a clip blade, I don't see any reason that you should EVER think about getting rid of it.

Show it lots of pocket time and love!

Bret is a great maker to work with. I have had a couple of fluff and buffs done by him with quick turn around. I have few of his knives in my collection including one special gent's knife he built for me with stag.

Beautiful gent's knife Chuko and I agree, he's standup x 10

Of course Jake, I owe it to you and Bob for convincing me not to let go of this one. It's here to stay and be loved. :D

Wow that's very nice. Are the handles dyed bone or some other material? We need details!

bolsters are carbon steel with a mustard etch, handles are butterscotch micarta and blades are m-4

That's a very nice knife, I love those scales and that fat spey blade. It should be called Sunset Micarta!

Here's a 4" trapper that I picked up recently. Blade and spring are both acid etched A2 steel. The action and snap on this thing is incredible. It's so clean and precise through every step of it's movement, and yes the edge is as sharp as it looks. It's a super slicer!
