Bret Dowell Knives

I posted this on 24hour too:

I love that style of drop point. Gonna be tough to choose between that one and the "RF Hunter." Also, the Leupold Alumina scope caps are worth the price every day of the week!

I totally agree on the scope caps. I like smaller knives and this one is perfect for everyday use and carry, even not hunting. Touched up the edge last night and really like the knife.

Parsons sheath rounds out a perfect little knife.

What are the specs on that knife and do you happen to have an "in the hand" shot? I tend to prefer a smaller knife on my side when hunting as well. I don't get the guys that pull out a monster 5" bladed clip point. It's overkill I'd rather have something much more nimble.

edited: I do see that Vince has that knife in his hand on the previous page...feel free to post another though!

Jake - I'll try to get a pic for you tonight. That knife was part of a group buy years ago. I liked the look and was able to get one made just like the group buy.

Randy - That is an Antelope, aka Goat, aka Pronghorn, etc. Hunted in my home state of Wyoming. In 2010, they estimated >500k antelope in Wyoming. That number is significantly lower due to several factors (habitat, drought, etc.). I very much enjoy hunting them and really respect the animal. Plus, it is our favorite meat at home.

Jake,
Photobucket is being a pain so I'll get you pics tomorrow. Cutting length is approx 2-3/4" and handle is 3-7/8".

No problem at all, thanks for the measurement. Ive been comparing your knife to the RF Hunter and Bret's normal drop point pattern. It seems that the sizes are all relative and it would just come down to picking a handle variation....I'm liking this one a lot. Not sure how I'll like that finger choil on the other two. I tend to hold a knife in many different positions when using it, especially on game so the more simple handle is good for me.

In the meantime...I picked this up from Bret about a week ago. 3-5/8", black G10 over blue liners.

That is a great one Jake! Bret nailed it.

Thanks for those, definitely helpful. That looks to be about the size of knife I prefer for woods carry and field dressing my deer. Parsons makes a great sheath also.

Newest one to join the fold with the help of a buddy.

Another earlier piece from Bret with nice thick slabs of mammoth and just as pleasant action as his recent knives.

Great addition to the collection Tim!!

Thanks buddy, all due to you talking me into buying that shadow Dowell ages ago!

That's a beauty Tim, a great looking piece of mammoth.

Thanks Erik, my first piece and it's quite a sight to just handle and look at all the rivers.

Tim, dont know if you could have done better. I like that old zippo too.

Thank you, I don't think so xD much thanks to Chris~ The zippo is actually from 2014 but I took some time distressing it.

Any idea of when you made this one Bret? Found it in a dark alley someplace LOL. Still fresh as the day you made it. Not sure how many hands it's been through as it has some handling marks but nothing from actual use from what I can see. The ironwood is awesome, I love the real tight curls.

Gave the Loveless by Dowell a good polish by hand today. Still couldn't remove all of the little marks but that's ok, it's going hunting with me this weekend anyway.

Better give this thread a bump.....new acquisition for me. First custom in stag and it's a knockout!
