Hi

I am fairly new to the forums and was following the discussion that got Cliff banned.

I hope that cooler heads prevail and let Cliff post again. I am not a rabid fan or hater. I think that he has many flaws in his arguments but I also think that he does raise some valid points in discussions.

Opinions are like you know what but that is what drives discussion. Cliff is a reductionist when it comes to knives. Some are more aesthetically or empirically driven. This can cause conflict which in the end is good because it forces you out of your box and actually examine and defend your ideas and beliefs.

No one is right or wrong when it comes to what they believe about knives. You can color me purple but I will always love D2. My first custom was a Dozier that changed my thought on that steel. My JYD2 is useless and I never use it 99% of the time, relegating most tasks to my Opinel. But I carry that JYD2 everyday because the aesthetic of the knife just draws me in. Busses are great knives from a top notch maker but I would never buy one. They do not appeal to me in what I think of as a knife. Good, bad, flawed logic, whatever, it's me. But I don't want a forum of people that think just like me.

Let's all just take a breath and get back to what makes bladeforums so good. Ideas and opinions that may cause me to say "they may have a point" and crack my wallet once more and buy a piece steel with a handle and bear the brunt of my creditors and wife.

There are over 17000 Cliff posts; since he had an opinion on every knife made, wether he handled it or not, feel free to choose several of his posts and apply them at will to newer knives. It matters not which posts, they were all the same.

I think the thread ought to be fed to the sharks, I have heard enough of his degrees. The main one he deserved was the one in BS. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but no one should constantly put EVERYONE else down because he thinks he knows it all.

My opinion, but held by hundreds of others here.

Read his posts, if you really want to get to know him!

I don't want to know anymore.

Can someone point me to the thread that provoked the Banning? - Having an issue with the search.

Thanks

I agree, let's bring Cliff Burton back from the dead. He really was one of the greatest bass players in rock history. I was lucky to see him play live a number of times, but it would be a real treat for the younger folks. (Anesthesia) - Pulling Teeth just has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

You have 34 posts, and you've been here since June '07. I hardly think you're the best judge of character when it comes to Cliff. When you're done reading his 17,000+ posts, get back to us with what you think.

If Cliff were able to take the opinion of someone who disagreed with him with a grain of salt, and not use veiled (or not-so-veiled) insults to beat down everyone who disagreed with him, and not mis-quote makers to suit his argument, and not change his stance simply to continue arguing, and not make proclamations and judgements on knives he had never handled, and not insult the experience of makers, users, and the industry as a whole, he would probably still be here.

Could Cliff have been a useful contributor to the forums? Probably. Was Cliff an assinine prick to everyone who held a differing opinion than his? 90% of the time, yes, yes he was.

The occasional culling will increase the strength of the herd.
