Bring on the Caly 3 !!!!!

I played with the CALY 3 for quite a while during the SHOT Show in Las Vegas.:D It is everything the “Mini-Manix” was supposed to be, i.e. with a blade of 3 inches. It is on top of my want list. Congratulations, Sal!

Regards, :)

Have there been any reports on the lock strength of the caly3?

- Chris

i was sure someone will ask this ? :D
The calypso is a high performance cutting tool for soft to medium use. If you stress it so much that you have to care for the lock be sure the blade will bite the dust 2 times eralier.

Best wishes

Still i would like to see the c54 reborn in the same style. But i know...the other models have to get sold ,too :D

For me, i would be done with a c52 and c54..the perfect combo! I mean the Delica has its counterpart in the Endura. But the Caly.Jr is lonely in this big hard world without a big bro who will take care for the bigger things that will come up

Aw...clubbin' dead horses is so relaxing sometimes :D

Best wishes

wow!

Caly's are some of the best looking spyderco knives imo.

Just bought a waved Delica and Endura for myself. But I think the Caly 3 would be a perfect gift for my father and grandpa.

Please Hurry!! I've been carrying my Native ALOT and it is showing it's age. It will still make a great beater for a long time, but I want a new spyderco in my pocket and this will be it.

I agree on the Micro Manix name. I can't believe how much it appears like the Manix. Smart idea because almost everyone loves the Manix.

When do they ship?????????

...There is a Caly3 being tooled for Carbon fiber scales and ZDP blades...

The more this knife is compared to the Manix, the less interested I get. I just want a simple, thin, light weight EDC. If I need a Manix, I'll use a Manix...I hope the Caly3 is closer to the old Caly jr than the manix, all things said, honestly.

If it is the almost the same thickness, slightly heavier because of the liners, grippy as hell because of the G10, and much stronger due to its new construction, why would you prefer the old model???

It is nowhere near the tank that the Manix is in the pics, but the shiny SS lock back and liners reminds me of the Manix. I would much rather this than a Caly Jr.

I'd be more interetsted if it was linerless or nested liner G10. Thin is in.

I'll still buy one anyway.

Hi,

I appreciate your opinions. All input is valuable. This design concept has been a personal favorite for more than 10 years. The design concept has gone through a number of "variations" and refinements over the years. The Caly3 is, in my opinion, the most refined iteration of the design concept, in function, egonomics, control, reliability, cutting power, ease of carry and safety.

It's not very eye appealing, looking more functional that attractive.

The Caly3 is an "afi" model that has been formed by the critical eye of quite a few knife "experts" on the; Bladeforums, UK forum and our Spyderco forums. There are special contributors, like Joe T. that have been nagging me for years with "suggestions", an un-named Dutch afi that forced "teeth, I would personally like to thank all of you for the development and encouragement of this iterationof the Caly design concept.

an update:

Only the pivot unscrews. Construction requirements to fit a lock to the design.

Liners are full, and skeletonized

It is basically a UKPK with a lock.

Jimping on spine and finger choil.

Variations planned are; carbon fiber ZDP version. If the demand is there, an FRN version. There is a smaller Caly4 also designed, waiting for market reaction to the Caly3.

The Caly3 should be shipping initial production month.

Well, you have one of those sold already. Price is irrelevant. If you would make the CF Caly with single liner and brushed (not polished nor peel-ply) CF you would make my dream knife, but I take it any way you make it.

I am really, really happy now :D.

I'd have to disagree personaly Sal, I think it's a very attractive knife! You're gonna make me go broke with the different variations you're planning on! :D

I'll take three, pinned or not.

I haven't had a need to fully tear down any of my Spydies yet, I don't see why this would be any different.

Since this is primarily a very light precision cutter, how about increasing the hardess of VG-10.

I want 2 of these. and 2 of the ZDP carbon fibre ones. And I'm dumping my UKPK. when are these slated to be out?

Hi HoB,

It's dual linered. CF is brushed.

Thanx MD13.

Yeeeha!!!!! (doing, little happy dance) Yipdeedoo!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Though I have to agree with MD13. I think the Caly Jr. has beautiful lines. Precisely because it is so unpretentious, very simple, clean and flowing.
