Bring on the Caly 3 !!!!!

This may replace my rookie as my most often used spydie outdoors.

I carry a gray caly, jr. at work usually.

This one is gonna sell!

"I'd be more interetsted if it was linerless or nested liner G10. Thin is in.
I'll still buy one anyway."

I sort of agree with this but I too will buy one as well. In fact, it is the knife I am most excited about and I don't think Spyderco will be able to keep up with demand in the near future.

I will keep my Grey CJ for sveral reasons but the main one is that it is so light that I can clip it to light shorts or PJ bottoms and not have it pull on them like a heavier knife would. I wear these PJ type pants around the house year round because they are so comfy but I still like to have a knife at hand. I get home from work, take a shower, put on a T-shirt and lounge pants and clip with a Delica 3 or a FRN CJ to the pocket and relax. When I need to cut something, I have a nice light handy pocket knife ready to open mail, open a plastic package or cut a piece of fruit or cheese. It is a great life!

Anyway, I like the idea but I really, really wish it was bigger. It looks like it is going to be heavy for it's size. If I am going to carry a heavy knife, I want some length to the blade. If this knife weighs as much as a Para, whu not just carry a Para? Don't get me wrong, I am going to buy this knife and I am glad you made it Sal but I also feel the need for one in a larger out of the house size. I want a 3 1/2"- 4" blade version as an EDC.

Thanks Sal for listening to all us knife knuts ramble on. I think this Calypso III will be a big seller as well as a favorite for us formites. I hope we didn't steer you down the wrong path on this and you have another flop. For some reason the Calypsos have never caught on in the mainstream but they sure are loved by knife lovers. I think this will be different if you give it a chance to catch on. It is a better knife than the Delica 4 I think. I love the D-4 but this one is a little more my style.

Sal, I love both the looks and the functionality of my UKPK, and will love the Caly III all the more. I will be ordering three of them, one for each of my two boys and one for me. I'll also order some of the ZDP/CF version when it comes out.

Sal, you need to start some sort of direct payroll deduction plan. :p

Sal: I am going to buy a Caly3, but I was wondering what the expected MSRP would be of the VG-10 version and ZPD CF variety. Considering that a Millie usually costs about $300 here in Norway, I might have to settle for the VG-10 if the ZPD is a lot more expensive.

Huge thanks for making the H1 Salt series! It is nice for us divers to finally have something sharp with us:thumbup:

We call our currency kroner, 1$ is about 6.5 kroner at the moment.

I usually don't buy my Spydies here, but when I'm in the US or buy online. It is nice to handle some of them before ordering though and I can say to my fiance that I just saved a lot of money when I order another one;)

thanks , i`m going to convert that to aussie dollars for a comparison (i`m in australia)

It is the other way around... I converted it to us $, so the military is 1800-2000 kroner here or about $300 US...

Makes quite a difference which way you look at it;)

$300 usd for a military? i just payed $160 usd for a carbon fiber bg42 military

As I said; I just handle knives here in shops... ;)

I've found Lighhound who ships Spydies internationally for about $2 extra. Prices are about like NGK and the service is perfect! He also sells a lot of other good stuff that is making my wallet cringe...

I'll ask him to order a Caly3 when they start showing up:D

Looks like there's hope after all for when my gray FRN Caly Jr finally bites the dust! IMO the Spyderco line needs more straight-forward, functional designs and full flat ground VG-10 blades.

Like the wire clip, less damage to clothes, furniture and vehicles. Have to see about the jimping, prototype looks like it could be a bit too sharp. Pinning not a problem for me, especially with the pivot adjustable. Hope the weight increase isn't too bad over the older FRNs.

Sal, I'm good for at least 4 of the ZDP's of any model coming out. I missed the original calypso zdp by not knowing when it came out. Now I preorder whenever possible.

My question is, what does this mean.
The Caly3 should be shipping initial production month.

Also is there a rule against giving model numbers out ahead of time? Preorders require this in most cases. Thank you for your patience Sal. Joe.

Hi Joe,

The "regular" G-10 versions will begin shipping next month. We generally make about 200 pcs per month of the model. The ZDP versions (with CF scales) are still a ways off. There is a long lead time for ZDP from Hitachi. It is not a stocked steel, but custom made for each customer.

Collectors normally get theirs first.

If reaction is good, then we'll tool up for an FRN version.

Any interest in the other powdered Japanese metals (SuperGold, Cowry, etc.)?
