Broken BK-9 Blade

It's not often that I read a thread about a knife/tool breaking and by the end of it actually want to buy that product. Great service Ethan, makes me really want to buy that BK10 I have been eyeing....

Get it. The 10 is an awesome blade. You won't be disappointed. It's my favorite Becker blade.

I had a similar situation right after I got my first Becker, while chopping on some hard oak I managed to chip the blade out of my 9. I was new to the Becker forum, but the response was amazing. Tooj had me send it to him directly and in a very short time I had a brand new 9 in my hand. My dad has some Kabar knives that are 40+ years old so I knew to expect quality and class from them, but I was overwhelmed.. like you said, it makes you feel like you didn't purchase a product but joined a family. Good luck to you, I know you are in good hands with Ethan/Kabar.

Surprised to see this but how awesome of Ethan to become involved. Great customer support right there. Just got my first 9 today!

They got handsome Moderators, too.

Just sayin'

WHAT ? You are hesitating to buy a BK10 ? Why ? It is pure awesomeness. It is THE reason i became a BeckerHead, #103 to be exact. Get you one right now. Don't wait or hesitate.:thumbup::D

Not a broken blade. That's a chip out, and yes, it can happen with batoning. That said, I'd certainly see if Ka-Bar will warranty it. It never hurts to ask. I don't speak for Ka-Bar (I just moderate this board for Ethan), but I cannot imagine how stripping a blade would void the warranty. It's just coating/paint and has little to do with the performance of the steel.

That's what I thought too, but that guy a week or two ago with the jacked up tip on his 16 was told that his warranty was void due to being stripped. I think Moose offered him a replacement since KABAR woudln't do it. Seemed strange to me. If that's the case, ALL of my Beckers have no warranty.

I know I should just pull the trigger and get one, but I have been leaning more toward smaller fixed blades these days instead of larger prybar-esque types. I am looking hard at the BK16 as well, that 5/32" blade seems like a great compromise between slicing and heavier wood tasks...but I like the heftier saber grind of the BK17.....oh hell now you just made me talk myself into buying 3 different knives....my future divorce attorney thanks you

I do not get it right every time and KA-Bar does not get it right every time but, both of us TRY to get it right every time........ Thanks for all the kind words......Makes it worth it....It really does........

I really like my bk knives. I even replaced an esee4 for my bk16 which I absolutely love (thanks moose!)

I agree with Uncle Malice, the 12 is awesome. I too had an issue with my 9 early on and Ka-Bar made it right. They're great people.

The world ain't perfect, sometimes you can have all the right ingredients for a world class meal and wind up with dogfood.

Its good customer service and folks willing to listen to the issue that ease the pain.

Durn tootin' they do, although leave it to Moose to make a Gathering look like an alternative-lifestyle getaway.

This made me smile. I recently did the same thing. Got rid of my Esee 4 and got a BK16. At first I thought I was crazy because of the price difference but the 16 just feels so much better in my hand. Nice to know I am not alone.
