Brous Blades Division Flipper: First Impressions

Nope, actually I think we should ONLY buy knives that are completely new designs that take absolutely nothing from any other knife ever made.

I would just be careful before trying to ruin someones reputation...with most knives (not all) its not that difficult to find another that looks similar.

I could have sworn that this thread was about our first impressions of the Brous Blades Division Flipper. I gotta remember to start posting negative comments about knives I don't own nor care about.

I think similar is an understatement in this case.

I want to say, for posterity's sake, you don't need to defend your purchase. My philosophy has always been buy what you want. My statement was really just meant to bring to light the issue. If you love the knife, right on man. I just want others to realize that Jason's designs may not be entirely his own. I am sure the knife is still screaming. I don't want you, OP, to think I am attacking you.

The more photos with them side-by-side I see, the more I agree with murdamook. I'm not going to jump to conclusion about who copied who, but I certainly appreciated the similarities pointed out to me. So thanks for posting it, murdamook.

You felt the need to further "derail" the thread though? I have already responded to statements exactly like the one you posted. If you want a response to your argument look 3 pages back; it has been covered.

I tried to ignore the responses as per mod request but people still continue to press the issue. Look at the cutout below the guard/flipper the elements and lines are exactly the same. Had Brous copied every other part of this knife but that one feature, I would agree that it isn't a copy but an homage. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

This thread is very off topic. Seems to happen in a lot of threads, people just attack other people.
Normally I see this place as a community, but in General Knife Discussion, some of you guys disappoint me.

That being said, I like the looks of this knife by Brous. He may have borrowed the design a little, but it's still kind of cool.

- How many designs can he "borrow" before it's not cool? It's up to 3 so far.

Good lookin' blade. I am loving mine. Gutted and skinned a catfish with it down at the river last night and it is quite the slicer.

Did washing the knife out after cleaning the fish affect the action at all? I don't know what type of lube he uses for the caged ball bearings so I wondered if washing it out seemed to do anything to the lubrication and/or the action of the flipper. Normally I would take the knife apart and clean the pivot/bearings and then use Sentry Tuf-Glide but if the lube stayed in place and the action remained smooth after cutting and cleaning the fish and washing the Division up then I probably won't bother.
Thanks.

Not sure why you quoted me but thanks for your high and mighty response, you may want to read through the thread before posting your critique. The analogy was not mine, it was the poster before me who used the coke example to which I responded. You may want to inform them of your opinion despite it being irrelevant.

It's a rather poor analogy to begin with since there are more types of cola than Pepsi or Coke and all of them sell and the folks who prefer one or the other can make their own choice since the market can easily bear all of the varieties.

Back to the topic at hand; personally, I see quite a number of differences in the two designs, subtle as they may be. To be quite honest, other than the few regular Brous haters I've never once heard of Poltergeist Works or any model of knife produced there, nor have I seen any reviews. Maybe the fella makes great knives; having never handled one I couldn't say. What I do know for a fact though is that Jason has been published and has amassed a large fan following in a short amount of time, despite a rather vocal minority that seem to plague any thread which so much as brings up his name. He also consistently turns out top-quality blades at reasonable prices. The Silent Soldier Ranger I've been carrying for months is by far the best neck knife I've ever held or used and is quite an interesting design. Hopefully he'll make a folder version too but then again, the same folks would likely complain it looked too similar to X or Y knife design because that too has an upswept reverse tanto blade.

I do not see any attacking, your bias is exposed in your exaggeration of those whose opinion you do not agree with and your understating of the similarity of the design.

"borrowed a little"??? That really is denial of the pictorial evidence which shows a substantial borrowing of the design in a folder format, the only unique feature is the odd cutout in the blade.

The facts are clear and present, it is disappointing that some of you guys want to deny reality to avoid an uncomfortable truth. It is also disappointing that some of you guys have tried to manipulate the facts and opinions into some sort of personal attack on Jason which simply isn't true.

And please do not pull the weak "hater" line as a member has already done earlier in the thread, these are inanimate objects, I don't hate them and I highly doubt anyone hates them. To hold an opposing opinion does not make anyone a hater.

"Also, when people don't always agree with someone why are they called Haters? Is that some new juvenile attempt to stifle others opinions? The same thing with "fan boy". Once you are ridiculed then apparently everything further you say must be invalid." - The Mastiff.

If you guys like the knife fine, looks like a good knife but lets not be in denial of the lineage of the design.

Like the knife just fine, feels great in the hand and flips open like a champ...smoothest flipper I've ever used. The carbon fiber scales look fantastic. I LOVE the acid stonewash blade, I see that ZT is now doing something similar with the ZT 030x series and it looks sweet. I which I could have that done to my 0300.

I have no idea what the story is with the knife design but I agree they DO look similar. I will ask Jason what the deal is and see what the details are.

TBH, when Jason came on the scene he was a young guy (23) with big ideas and even bigger confidence. Some people were turned off by that because they don't like young people coming in and trying to change how things are done. Guess what? He did it and is now extremely successful.

I read those initial posts on a "certain devilish forum" and while Jason was a bit naive he still came around and took much of the advice. I can't say the same for most of the people on that "certain devilish forum." They came across as a bunch of arrogant jerks that wanted to drag him through the mud because had some new ideas and wasn't afraid of trying them out and banking his reputation on that success.

Looking back at those threads now, and seeing how successful Jason has become, make most of the people on that "certain devilish forum" look extremely negative, judgmental, and pathetic.

Which is why I have not been around that devilish forums in a long long time.

As for the OP, this is a nice looking knife. Curious as to the blade size and cost. Four inch minimum for me, any less it's off my list. AS to if it's a copy or not, who cares. I for one do not. What attracts me right off are aesthetics, If it looks good and does not cost a ton, I'll buy it. AFAIC, let the makers argue the battle over copyrights. I'm not getting involved. I don't even think knife designs should be a copyright issue. All it takes is one minor change, no violation. Change the shape of the choil, no issue. Use a hole instead of a thumbstud, no issue.

It's all a big non-event to me.

We miss you guys over on JerzeeDevil Forums, where we steered this kid on a better path. Like it or not, be jealous of us and our skills. We did it. Now as for this knife, it is a knock off. 94% Design copy. :D

That too, being said. Some of you need to come to The JD and experience it for yourselves, do not listen to guys who are OK with ripping off people's intellectual properties...I mean, come on!

:D :)

Anyways you like to mix it up, there you have it!

See you all on the flip side!

This! ^^^

I believe the OP entitled this thread "Brous Blades Division Flipper: First Impressions"

I'm sure his intent was to express his thoughts about his new purchase and to invite others that had bought and used the knife to do the same. Its clear that several of you have a very negative opinion of the maker and this knife...point taken.

Is it safe now to talk about the Division Flipper? How its smoother than any flipper I've ever used and that the hidden stop pins give it a VERY clean look, or are there more that want to take a swing at the dead horse?

Hidden stop pins???
Why list that feature? It's not like it's a new thing.

Didn't say it was a "new thing"...simply said it helped give it a clean look. He didn't invent the ball bearing pivot either BUT this is still the smoothest flipper many of use have ever tried.

What is it with you guys and the ire you have for Jason Brous? Did he date your sister? Come on, we're talking knives here...this isn't suppose to be adversarial.

I'm just merely curious why you listed that feature. Struck me as odd, but whatever that might have just been me.

Man buys knife. Man enjoys knife. Man posts his happy first impressions.
Argument ensues in the OP's thread. Disrupting threads function and lessening the fun of posting his first impressions.
IMHO make your own thread if you have issues with Jason's work, don't crap up a happy mans thread with your personal issues. This has happened over and over, ruining an OP's thread intent.
Relax and let others enjoy their purchases. It really is that simple.
To OP, I agree with you 100%. I have a satin Division flipper also and love it.
Enjoy your purchase!

I fully agree , OP enjoy your knife mate .

I've just read through this entire thread.... Realize that all of you, other than those actually talking about the performance of the knife are just being dicks, and seriously sound like my little 5 year old cousins bickering about who's toy is better... Give me a break guys... Get over yourselves
