Brous Mini-Division Flipper

Was going to post pictures but it's not letting me do it from my phone....This thing is a beast of a knife and has a scary quick and easy deployment.

Flipped it all the way home. Let it rest. Picked it up just now and flipped it open... big smile.

This thing is really working in nicely. I dunno if I was being hard on it earlier or I magically got a detent groove going but it is quite the flipper.
Compared it to my Bionic just now and they are very different, but the action on the Mini Division is smooth.

Number 12 of 100 was waiting in my mailbox when I got home:

Great first impressions - super smooth and fast deployment without a hint of grittiness...contours to the hand wonderfully...satin finish blade is gorgeous and sharp.

That satin looks soooo good! Glas to hear it's a great flipper, but from what i Know, Brous is kinda famous about his flippingaction on his Knives.

Also, just got a shippingnotice from Usps, sony order is supposed to be ship the 10th of feb.
I hope dit had already been shipped and that i Would get a surprise in the mailbox, but guess not.
Atleast i can track it. To see where it is at Times. :)

Carrying the Mini-Division today...here's some less than stellar phone pics. Very well centered blade and attractive G10:

I'll do some studio photos this weekend for my upcoming review.

Ok here are the pictures....Some size/shape comparisons and the guts....

I've been in there a time or two with the intent of leasing a Merc but decided otherwise....

The action is similar but feels better on the 0777.....The Brous has a rather sharp point to the flipper that doesn't feel as nice on the finger but it's not too terrible. The blade is also much heavier so it takes a bit to get it moving, but once you get the feel for how much force it really takes the momentum caries it open rather nicely. The ZT on the other hand has a more rounded flipped and lighter blade. It took a bit to wear in the detent on the ZT but once it did it opens pretty easy. As for smoothness they seem about the same.

TouchOfRed you will have to wait for it's little brother...lol... I was really hoping the Brous would be a replacement for the ZT 0777 but it's a different animal entirely. It feels twice as heavy and wide.

An interesting observation. The weight and thickness of the M-D is just a tad more than I was hoping for. The longer 0777 actually EDC's a bit more easily due to the thinness and lighter weight.

Were you looking for a cheaper alternative to the 0777 (freeing you to sell it) or is there something you don't like about the 0777? For me, it's the blade shape (don't care for it)...but I'm pretty happy with it otherwise.

Hehe ;)
Would you say this still is a big knife? Ive carried Spyderco Military and Zt 0560bw. I had no problem carrying these two Knives. Would the Mini Division be a problem to carry or not? If you compared these two Knives against it?

Thanks :)

I really just liked the lines/shape (blade mostly) of the M-D more than the ZT and didn't really figure there would be much use in keeping both knives if they were so similar. However, now that I have my hands on the M-D they are much different. The M-D is 34% (1.4 oz) heavier according to online specs. I will have to measure when I get home but it certainly feels twice as wide in the hand. The ZT is an awesome knife, but I like you am not too keen on the blade shape. I also wanted a satin finish instead of the DLC. I'm leaning towards trying to find a 0777 without the DLC coating and possibly getting rid of the M-D. Really wish I could just slap the M-D blade on my 0777 though..lol

I hear you. Jason's satin blades are gorgeous. I'm thinking I may not keep both the T4 I have AND the M-D. What makes this decision all the more difficult is knowing that, once ZT starts shipping 'em, I'll have ZT 0562CF in the mix. Functionally/utility wise, I could likely be pretty happy with the following ZT knives:

0777 - weekend carry
0562CF - weekday carry
0550 - something a little different for variety.

But I love the look of Jason's blades. Interestingly, the 0562CF will have a partially satin finished blade...FINALLY ZT!

It's a big knife, no doubt...It does tuck into my khakis pretty well though and the deep pocket clip helps a lot. I haven't owner either of those two knives, but I have handled the 560. The weight will be less than the 560 (5.98 vs 5.5 oz) but if I remember correctly the M-D will be wider. I would say that if you don't have a problem with the 560 you wont have a problem with the M-D.

I passed on a 0777, as I couldn't bear to part with that much $$$, but then turned around and bought a full-sized Division in carbon fiber and satin blade. It was more than $100 less, but still a big chunk of change. The knife is insanely huge, though.

Does anyone know if any of the 1000 Mini Divisions will be in carbon fiber?

I like the shape of the M-D and the others that have the same shape, but most of his other shapes I don't care for. I'm not big into radical (if you would call it that) shapes with re-curves, tantos, etc. I do really like his satin finish though.

I also might pick up a 0562 or CF but, not before I handle one in person. Not quite sure I'm sold on it. Really hope someone I know picks one up and lets me swap knives for about a week.

My carry rotation has been mostly dominated by my sebenzas and unumzaan with the 0777 snuck in maybe once every other week. I've got a lot of others that are collecting dust that may end up being sold, but I haven't quite found a need for the cash. I'm really kinda torn between overbuilt folders and the precision and ergos of the CRK knives.

Don't think so, but if they are made I will probably buy one.

I received my Mini division yesterday and am thrilled with the purchase. The quality is very high and I can't wait to get my knife flipping. It feels "gritty" when I go to open it. I can't flip it open even if I pre-load the flipper. I've opened and closed the blade a few hundred times now and still feel some wear and something causing friction. If I open and close the blade a few times in a row it becomes even harder to move (Slightly expanding size of the metal based on the heat from the friction?)

Here is a pic I've uploaded of the wear mark on the blade (already)

I've emailed Jason.

The dark line where the detent ball contacts the blade looks pretty wide, maybe thats your problem? Possibly the ball has a flat spot? Maybe try manual opening the knife while you hold the lock bar out? I can feel the detent ball rubbing on my blade if I open the blade with two hands and it feels kinda gritty in places but it still flips open smoothly.
