Buck 110 Collector tins

Hi GeoThorn, My comments about blade movement (side to side) are with the blade open. But, you got me wondering......and sure enough it also has side to side play when closed.....Hmm:jerkit: .......so I started shaking and your right....it rattles enough to hear it....to funny:D . This tin can was sealed tight with shrink wrap when I got it. This one was a gift from my son and his wife, all of the tins I picked out were fine!!!!!
Sorry, jb4570, but I don't think that I've seen your post concerning your instance of Buck 110 blade wobble. Was it in this thread?

I got my "tin" today that I bought on Ebay. I did open it as the 110 was to be a carrier. To my dismay the blade has a wobble. I know I can send it to Buck but jeeze, what a disappointment. I really hate blade wobble and can't stand even a bit of it. This is my second Buck with a wobble and both are from Idaho...
Because TerryM mentioned that he got his Buck 110 Commemorative Tin off of eBay, I was just wondering if the plastic wrap was still on it. I wouldn't want any seller on eBay to be selling opened Buck 110 Commemorative Tins, that contain knives that they have discovered to have had blade wobble, before putting it up for auction.

Hm...maybe, if I buy any more Buck 110 Commemorative Tins, I'll shake them first, and listen for the rattle...? ;)

Hi GeoThorn, Please see the post "Commemorative Issue" by Bigbcustom. I have made a few comments and observations about this issue in that thread. If you go to the post I have listed here I also posted a pic of the problem knife. Sorry for the confusion, this is the third thread dealing with this topic.:(

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, jb4570.

Hm...what I'm finding weird is the severe lack of Buck representatives commenting on this issue.

I was going to tell TerryM just to take his Buck 110 Commemorative Tin back to Wal*Mart and try to do an exchange, and then I re-read his post and saw that he'd gotten it through eBay. Because he got it through eBay, I guess that he could return the knife to the seller and demand his money back...or, send it back to Buck.

If the plastic wrapper was off of TerryM's Buck 110 Commemorative Tin when he received it, then the seller could've found the blade wobble and been selling the problem off to someone else.

Geez..what have I started?:o

The only issues I noticed with my 110 were a gritty opening, and the blade didn't come as sharp as I like. Oddly enough, it would slice paper smoothly, but not shave. That's changed now. I might be heading back to Midlothian in the next couple weeks, and I'll see if they have any left. If so I'll post a report.

I bought 12 of these tins and have opened six. All but one where solid, tight blades and great finishes. One has a very slight movement when open, not enough to get to me but may not be acceptable to others. That is not the first thing I look at, but that one will be my EDC over the others as it is the only flaw any of the open ones had.....

I've been flying moose surveys and am late replying. Yes, my Ebay tin had the shrink wrap and was unopened. Luck of the draw I guess. :)

All 3 of my collector tin 110's are perfect. I even checked them against several older 110's I have. They are all the same.

I may be able to get a buck collector set tin for 15 bucks and was wondering if that is an ok price. I may be able to get several, will have to check and find out. Thanks.

:D :D ...NAHHH...I wouldn't get it for that price. By the way send me that guy's address and I'll take it off of his hands...heh heh heh...That's a great price for the tin. Snap it up if ya can. You won't be sorry....you could also send me the "over-stock"...LOL...

Yeah, what DarrylS said...$15 is WAY too much!!!! Send me the contact data and I will let that guy know he is ripping ya off!!!! AND, if you have already committed to buy at that price, go ahead and back out and I will buy what you have committed to only to help ya get out of the deal. ;) ;) ;) ;)

$15 is a great deal...buy all the cans you can!!! :)

The tins in NY are still $23.46 here and almost none are left. I bought 12 at this price, so that is a bargin !!!!!!

Hi there, Hope you don't mind a question from a Noob. I am new to the forum and to knives as lookinga at them as collectors items.
Could someone please explain to me why there is such a big price difference between the Buck 110 Commerative Tin and the regular Buck 110 knife. The knofe by itself seems to sell for more than twice as much as the one on the commerative tin. Would someone please explain the difference to me?
Also has anyone looked at or tried the "quick draw sheaths" for the 110 advertised on EBay? They are the ones that open the knofe automatically as you pull it out and sell for around $12.99. Any thoughts/opinions
TIA, OldMan1

Hey OldMan1...
Can't explain the deal on the tins. It's a great deal...especially when you have Buck Buds' helping you score a sweet deal. I'm thinking they are loss leaders for Wally World...but I dunno. Hell, I failed Art History in college...you can imagine what I know about marketing. There are smart peeps here and one of them will chime in.

BUT, I do know about the quick draw sheaths. I bought one and then after I used it for a week or so, I bought a back up for the future. Just in case the first one wears out.

It is a cool deal, but I have lately decided not to wear it unless I'm going to a "social event" LOL. My personal Buck Yoda (Mike) and I have exchanged messages on this forum about them. Search for posts by "mfinden" (that was my nic before my sex change operation) and you will see a thread for "Newbie Quick Draw...".

Because I hate getting funky looks from Mr. Badge, I now use the Bandit thumb stud. I actually prefer it over the Quick Draw McGraw Bobalooie Sheath...

If you decide to get one of those sheaths put some loctite on the threaded screw...you will know it when you get it. I lost one and had to replace it. It is integral to the pivot action needed for the draw...it has a nylon bushing that "protects" the blade during the draw. And, BTW, you end up sharpening your "utility tool" more often because of the draw on the bushing that eventually cuts through and then you're extracting against the metal of the pivot/screw gizmo.

Long way to say, "it's efficent, but I prefer the Bandit".

Say "Hi" to OldMan2 for me :D and welcome fellow newbie...

Actually they are only a few dollars in price difference at Waldo world. $23 for the tin, $28 for the 110 in the counter. MSRP for the 110 is much higher though. Knowing Waldo World, they probably wanted a high volume 110 for their sales. They will negotiate with Buck for this special tin at a special price, then they guarantee a very high volume. Both Buck and Waldo make less profit margin but much more profit on the deal.

Hey John...
I'd put up a pic in my avatar but can't.
Who runs this hot dog stand anyway?
Wrote the "administrator" three times since they've got my $10 for Basic Membership and still no avatar, no signature, no attachments :(
WHINNNE!!!!!
Mr. Goose. :)

Thanks for the replies, gang. I already had the tin, but have left it in the shinkwrapping and went to Wally World tonight and bought a 110 for $29.95 (nice, easy opening, firm lock, no wobble).
One thing I did notice, however is that black, cloth/mesh whatever, rather than leather.
Dick's Sporting Goods has them for $10 more. I'm going to check there and see if there is a difference in the sheath.
The reason I was originally asking is that when I see them on many online knofe stores they are usually $50+ and I was wondering if there was a difference in any of the materials.
Thanks again, Old Man1

Went to WalMart today and noticed that they had the 110 Commemorative Tins back in stock. I had bought the last one they had two weeks ago for $23.44. The price now is $16.00. They had 37 of them. I bought 4. I would be willing to go back and get more for anyone who wanted one.
I figure with tax and postage, it would take $20 - $21 for me to break even. I'll be going back tomorrow, so if anyone wants one, email or PM me.
I hope that I'm not breaking any Forum rules by not listing these for sale in that section, but I'm not buying them for re-sale there (EBay maybe in a few years), at most I figure I'd be making a dollar or less per person (just enough to cover packing materials, gas and postage.
My WalMart is in Normal, IL. Check yours, but if I can help out anyone, I'm willing to. OldMan1
