Buck 110 poor finish

It's not complaining it's a topic of discussion. Excuse me for not having pix of broken knives I had a year ago.
This isn't about you !! Everyone is referring to the OP unless your 110 lock "problem" is addressed in their post.

Chill out there tonto. Like I said were discussing here that's all. No one else is getting bent outta shape.

If I can get a vid to load later this evening, I'll show u guys that other 110. I'm gonna send it in to BUCK I think a old square frame with a 50th blade in it would be sweet! :D

I will just say, that I recently had to send in a 112 for the exact same problem. When you closed the knife, the blade would essentially "bounce" back open about an 1/8th inch of the blade tip exposed and then stop like that.

Buck had it back repaired and working perfect in short order, but it can happen.

As for the "walk and talk" on the 301 stockmen, I love them, I have more of them than probably any other knife in my collection, from the first Schrade contracts, to last year's production, and as much as I hate to admit it, since Buck changed the layout of the blades and went to the current backspring system, I've found very few that have the "snap" of the older style knives.

Does it bother you that the current production 301 doesn't have the strong walk and talk of the 301's from years ago?

Tonto, I guess you are assuming I'm Native American or just uneducated. I won't interfere with your discussion anymore.

No sir I say quite frequently. U know like bud, friend, pal etc. No disrespect intended whatsoever. Although I don't appreciate the uneducated part, I'm very educated as a matter of fact. And no stay and be a part of the discussion please, the more the marrier! :D

I own many Buck Knives and in my opinion the regular production 110 is a well built knife meant to be used. And at a great price for a knife made in America. I believe that the knife has proven over time that it is a great knife for which it is designed. A user's knife for cutting. I do not believe the standard production 110 was meant to be a perfect fit and finish knife as some seem to think. I have sold hundreds of 110's and have never had a complaint. In my opinion if perfect fit and finish is what you are after you need to step up to some higher priced customs. If the problem is severe or affects the use of the knife than I understand sending it in for a replacement or repair. All manufactures have items returned with problems and what should matter is how the problem is taken care of and from what I have personally seen and heard Buck does a 1st rate job.

Below is a link to a great well written thread on knife fit and finish and the knives the writer is speaking of are much more pricey than a standard 110 and even they have people having problems with their fit and finish.

I post pictures of some of my Buck Knife collection on the Buck Sunday Picture Show but do not usually post too much on other issues and is very upsetting when these threads become more about bashing than discussing the issues or in helping the OP. I for one choose not to play into them.

Well, the few dollars shipping costs is a problem for me because I spent my entire paycheck on bills, and the rest on the knife and gas. You see, unlike many in my generation my Mommy and Daddy aren't paying my way through college, so I have to do this crazy thing called work and pay for it myself without taking on any debt. I could sell some stocks, but I'd rather not go through that process just to ship a knife. Please don't poo-poo other people until you know their situation. Regardless of price, there is absolutely no justification that I should have to pay for THEIR mistake.

I took it back to the gun shop I bought it from and they agreed that a 110 isn't supposed to look like this. However, they don't do returns on knives (or ammo, or guns, etc) so I have to go to Buck myself.

I'm thinking of keeping this one and getting another 110. NOT because the finish is anywhere near normal, but because since it doesn't look as good I won't feel bad about getting it dirty and beating the hell out of it. So I'm gonna keep this one as it is and get another one before the new year as a backup/collectible. I'll get my next 110 at a local shop where they'll let me look at every one in stock and select the one I want (with the best fit & finish, obviously).

Thanks to those of you who answered my question and shared your experience.

Sounds like a good plan.
I would still like to see photos of your knife :)
Do you have access to tools?
It really is pretty easy to clean up things like the scales on the handle.
Shoot, if you lived in my town, I would do it for you.

Yes, I don't know if they need to return to the old 2 spring design, or modify the new 3 spring design in someway, but I'd love to see them close with more snap.

I wonder if they listen to the masses.

In my opinion, they won't go back to the 3 blade 2 spring design.
Too many broken springs on the 2 spring design, which was why it was snappier (wider spring with 2 blades relying on it for tension etc)
Also, they had to bend the 2 blades that share the spring. Straight blades are more appealing to me.

I think like any subject, you will find people on both sides of the topic.

While i do like both the old and the new, I seem to prefer the late model slippies, and carry one of mine daily :)

This post is to illustrate the usefulness of photos and videos ;)
(And because I am fond of posting photos :D )

Here is my 2013 user 110 that was purchased online.
Scales do not match at all, but I like both sides quite a lot.
It is almost like 2 knives in one :)

This side is what I assume people think is the classic look.

This side is very different, and I like it better :)

The "snap" is called "detente" isn't it?
Just to show that all late model 110's do not have weak detente, here is mine :)

I love my current production 301 and also like the 3 straight blades but was wondering if they could add more snap to the current one.
It doesn't look like I'm alone on this but maybe I'm overreacting?

Good to see you planned for the future, but I don't see that you're special in any way. We all work hard for our money, I did the same as you, so you're not getting any sympathy here.

BS and you know it. You can't afford shipping, how are you getting another 110?

You will find that it is not just Buck that requires that you pay shipping to them but almost all manufacturers require the purchaser to pay shipping many times both ways along with sometimes a handling or processing fee for warranty work. This is a pretty standard process. I have read other threads in the past with the same complaint that the manufacturer will not pay shipping.

It does sound like the OP figured out what would be best for for him to do. I do hope in the end that he is happy with his decision. Buck does make a great product at a very reasonable price.

Your kidding right? You have stocks and your complaining about shipping costs to send a 110 back? Wow. And let me speak for us buck boys. We work mommy and daddy don't pay crap here buddy.

Wow, I think a few people here need to step back and take a breath.
I also worked full time to put myself through college, and it was brutal.

Classes, homework, job work, house work..... always busy, hardly any sleep, and on top of all that broke as a joke all the freaking time.
Same thing for my room mates. We ate rice or beans for dinner more often than I care to remember.
$6 was a very big deal for me back then, and was better spent on food, rent or electricity.

I rode my bicycle to school and work, because gas cost vital money.
I bought exactly one Buck Knife during that time, and still have it :)
It was a prized luxury that ate into the money I needed for living.
I worked cooking in restaraunts, and somehow saved enough to get a decent chef knife, I still have that one too.
But saving that money took a long time.

So anyone who claims they worked full time and put themselves through college, should surely remember how rough and shitty it was!
I know I do.

Since one or two people seem to think I'm just making this up, I'll post some pictures tomorrow when I get the chance.

Thank you to those of you that answered my question and shared your experiences. I appreciate the input.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures today….and you are welcome.

I'm withdrawing my offer of paying for your shipping since you have the means…and you are welcome again.

You really do have my interest with this thread since it was important enough for you to open it with your very first post on Blade Forums.
You might be surprised how helpful most are here in the Buck Forums. They have to see what you are talking about that bothers you this much before anyone can help.
PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES!!
I know there are others that are looking forward to the pictures today also.
