BUCK 2022 112 Leagacy Tribute

So who here is buying a Legacy 112 through Larry Oden???

I need an enabler……..if others are sinking their money on this knife….maybe I will. Going to be about the same price as the buck BOTM koa was ( $250) or a bit more thru Larry. I am not doing this alone.

Its a difficult choice, if you are collecting 112 varients and editions, which I am, how do you pass this up? it might become the holy grail of 112’s. Do you just get the cheap 50th logo one and say screw this expensive. replica and be happy with that?

Or save your bucks for the rare opportunity to purchase an original if one ever crosses your path...

Don't wait for the crowd to decide it's a "grail", you'll always be playing catch-up. As with all things, if you like it, buy it. Buy it for YOU, or not, for YOU. I don't care if my grands don't get into knives, I collect things for me, and if they end up sharing the joy someday, extra points!

At 72 years old and fighting CLL (Leukemia), maybe I have a little different perspective. For me, my family comes first and after that I kind of buy what I like when it comes to knives. Here lately I've been on a bit of a Buck binge. I have picked up 2 112's BOTM in Koa, and have also picked up a few other Bucks along the way. For me, I'll probably never use all the Bucks that I have but I enjoy getting them out now and then, looking at them and giving them a little TLC. I guess in the end, I'll have a lot of nice Bucks to put on my garage sale. So I guess it's all personal preference on how you look at things. As for me, I wouldn't mind picking up a Legacy 112. Will have to see when the time comes.

This is all JMO. Enjoy your Bucks while you still can. :)

I thought about it... But in the end, I think I'm going to pass. Micarta and 440c at that price is just a hard pill to swallow for me.

I did just get my order in for the 212 Pro and Ranger Sport though. :D

A serious question of all collectors,,,,,BUCK or anything…what is the end game goal?
Something I ponder a lot…especially about getting the NEW 112 Tribute model…

I am working with a collector that is older and retired and is liquidating his 200 knife collection over 25 years because of health concerns….and yes, I have made some wonderful additions to my collection from his stockpile, and plan to buy more as money permits…a really nice man to deal with….

But is that the endgame goal? To build a great collection and then, as nature takes its course, for all of us,
someday sell off everything you acquired, and loved, and enjoyed. ( especially if your kids are not into it).

I wrestle with this a lot, at 68 years old…asking, what is the point in getting more stuff….who really wants it and will appreciate it when I am no longer here.

I mean... Our lives are going to end, so what's the point of anything really? The same could be said about playing video games, landscaping, watching sports, playing an instrument, etc... I figure all I can do, is what makes me happy. Buying/owning knives is something that makes me happy, so I'll continue to do it until it's no longer fun for me. 🤷‍♂️

More than anything else I love the chase..Research too. Starting Around 2010 I spent many hours looking at special project lists just so I would know what was possible. Some incredibly limited knives are in the archives and of course many odd ones are in no list. In a recent thread a reblade by Mr Stone, in Black micarta with a incredible Drop point profile, came to my attention. I'll have that 112 some day! I like bidding for the oddballs too and even if I don't win I still enjoy the hunt. I must have two dozen 112's on my 'grail' list and about 8 or 9 I know where they are. But many in my collection just popped up and I was lucky enough the price and the timing was good. But many get away. Even some that were a great deal. For me 112 collecting is like hunting. Ya can't shoot every one you see and if your really looking for a Trophy you MUST pass on lesser ones so you have bullets left. But I truly love the thrill of the hunt..

very nicely said….are you going to shoot the 112 legacy tribute or let that get away?

where did you place order?
are they on the website?

zipppo123 I think I will wait till summer before I go for that one. I have a list of 112"'s that are inline (and have to be paid for) before I get it. Maybe before the Blade Show. Because of the 50th anniversary Buck there's a new intrest in the 112 this year and I'm sure my 112 display will be too. I have no doubt I will be asked if I have that one. I have a
V1-V1 that's engraved with a bail added and a NIB I picked up years ago because it's odd to find one now. I would love to find one of the few Chuck himself used a router to put your name or initials on the first weekend the 112 was released. I DID get the Marbled Carbon fiber LE in S30V delivered to the house this morning! I snuck out to the mailbox and grabbed the box and left the other mail..To me at $89.00 that particular LE 112 is a real bargain! I'm really grateful you posted a pic of it taken apart zipppo123 because even though it is not listed as a Take-Apart it can be done. It will be a part of my Take-Apart display with about a dozen different 112 blades.
To answer your question I WILL be shooting at that one but probably used on Ebay. Someone will absolutely let one go for less than MSRP and since I'm looking at it for display purposes only I'm not worried about the box/shieth/ paperwork. On some 112's especially the few sold during the brief window Buck opened up the Custom shop for 6 weeks around 2011??? the paperwork COA adds a lot of collector value.

I'm a BCCI member so I placed my order with Mr. Oden.
Thanks for getting back. I am a BCCI member too but I think the sport model will get the BCCI pro program discount from Buck so I am going to wait for that. If I was buying the Legacy 112 I would go thru Larry.

Yea, the 112 Sport should definitely have the pro program discount. If it's anything like the release of the Onset though, it might be a little while before they add the discount to the website... And I'm itching to get my hands on a screw together 112, lol. I figured since I was already putting in an order for the Legacy 212, and there were no other Legacy knives that really interested me (at least at their respective prices), I may as well throw the 112 Sport on the order too. The price should be more or less the same, and maybe I'll get it a little sooner this way. :)

Question if you could have an authentic 1972 micarter or sequa wood 3 pin 112 in great condition, for 1/3 cost, would that make a lot more sense for a collection than a $300 plus repro?

It's probably going to start to sound like a broken record around here, but that's because I think it's the same question being asked in many different ways. I would say that a lot of those having chimed in across some of the various threads already have been spot on and given some great advice and takes on collecting as a whole.

It's your collection, so only you can say what makes the most sense. Are you looking for factory production knives, or one-off-customs, or EVERYTHING lol? What are your goals? What does your research tell you? What will bring you the most joy?

If it is it the thrill of the chase, looking for an original can definitely get the blood pumping! If it is more so the fear of missing out (FOMO), then satisfaction can be a very fleeting, if attainable, thing.

I just went and took a good look at the shieth for the Tribute on Bucks website and I believe it's different from the standard shieth. So there's that.
I've been thinking about it for a few days now and have a few more thoughts about it. First it's LIMITED to a thousand and as we all know Buck does not always build as many as stated..I think they will build them as demand calls for all during the year as they are ordered. If because of the "high" price few are ordered/sold Buck will absolutely not build that many. No way Buck has made a thousand already and will ship as orders come in. CJ came out with 'Lean Manufacturing' a long time ago and will not carry a huge inventory of ANY knife. So the possibility exists that the run of these will be well under 1,000 maybe as low as 200 or even under. That will make the 'collectabilty' for this 112 much much better. It won't be the first time a 'high priced' Buck turned out to be a bargain years later. Right now the cost stands in the way of high sales but what really matters is the final number made. Finally the 112 is getting more interesting to collectors and this might be be a sleeper if Production numbers are low. But we won't know that for at least a year.

Wow!! $361.99 for the Ranger Tribute. Sounds like we could all use more "Stimulus" checks to fund our purchases. Maybe call them "Buck Stimulus" for collectors and hoarders.

How does one go about finding out the actual quantity made? Will it be announced somewhere or is it simply a matter of asking the folks at Buck?

gedlicks do you think that they're made now? You sound absolutely positive about that so I will go with you.. I do know many LE's over the years had short runs when sales fell below expectations..Mr. Hubbard can you weigh in officially on this? If sales are slow will Buck still make 1,000??
