Buck Slim Pro

Curious if you see pictures?

Anything manufactured has a percentage that might need warranty work. It always sets me back when I read that expectations of perfect product everytime. That's impossible.

Centering on a riveted knife is something you have to look at with a grain of salt. Rubbing is one thing.

Of all of the 110 slims I have looked at they all looked pretty good. One had a loose thumbstud but was taken care of immediately by Danny in warranty.
Yeah I saw your pics and they look great. Cant wait to get mine. But sometimes I have noticed that just because all the brown micarta looks good doesnt necessarily mean the green ones will be. Different batches of products produced at different times by different people perhaps dont always come out the same.

My gripe is that it shouldn’t have made it past QC when the darn clip screws are so long they are pushing the scale away from the backspacer so far I can see through the knife. I could tolerate the blade centering it it wasn’t rubbing to begin with and when I pull the clip screws the blade firmly rest against the scale when closed. Pinned construction is one of the oldest methods, if they can’t figure out how to get the blade centered by now, I doubt they ever will. Honestly I think the blade pivot should be a screw anyway to be honest.

It’s not that I expect perfection, however I do expect it’s fit & finish to be consistent with its price point.

I get what your saying. But it's impossible for anything to be perfect every time. There is no way around it.

Buck has plenty of experience with pinned knives. Your statement of you doubt they will ever get it is crazy.
Send in the knife. Get back what you expect. It's too bad you got a knife that needs work right off the bat. It isn't the norm for sure.

Looking at the pics of dw's knife again, i can see the screw spacing issue now.

not a great assembly on that example, but fortunately Buck has ridiculously awesome customer service and if you send it in they will fix or send you another one.

Makeal, i hope you are planning on making some of your great sheaths for the 110 Slims!

1) you made the assertion that it’s normal for knives with pinned construction to have an uncentered blade, to which I disagree.

2) paying the $15 to send it in puts the total price above it’s value point & what I’m willing to spend on this knife. Now if they are willing to send me a shipping label it’s another story.

I get that it’s probably not normal, and that not everything can be 100% 100% of the time. But to exhibit an off center & rubbing blade, over length screws creating a scale fit issues & spinning threaded inserts which each of which should have not made it past QC on their own much less all at the same time on the same knife. It leaves a horrible taste in ones mouth and certainly gives one doubt about the overall quality of the product. Unless Buck steps up and sends a shipping label there is no path to resolution where I’m not out additional money. And for the record I have reached out to them and am awaiting their response.

As I’ve said before I really like the idea and the knife in general but the execution on the one I received leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully others don’t have similar experiences.

$15 dollars? Are you sending it via FedEx? I've never paid more than maybe $3 to send a knife back to Buck.

I would really like a micarta 110 slim. But I feel like, at $80+, I would get a better value getting a regular 110 with some micarta and a good steel. Or maybe even the 110 pro. I kno the slim lightweight fills a need but i just feel that money would be better spent on a full 110. I will definitely pick up a green select slim though

flat rate box from mid florida to idaho is $7.20. just checked usps. im about as far as you can get from idaho except for outside the usa of course.

Its S30V steel. Its not the 420.

The relative costs of knives has given me pause for thought, as well. An SAK with multiple blades is 10% of the cost of a single-blade Chris Reeves knife. Small wonder the earth people don't understand us.

I may be in the minority, but I like 420HC. It serves my purposes very well for the cost. I'd like to see the slim Bucks offered in micarta and 420.

A solid Gold one....:D:D:D:rolleyes: To add to DP's reply you want to keep your package under 12" also, so I don't know how a 110 cost 15$ to ship unless you insured it for 1,000$...
