It's a well spent 25 dollars. Amazing book

I'm sure it is......I'm just amazed that this place has sunk so low that a man asks a question and instead of an answer......people try to promote a $25 book.

LOL! This place has gotten strange and people would rather argue than be helpful.

Go figure. New blood, I guess.

now quit the bs and let him decide what he wants to search for ok----cuz this shit aint goin nowhere...
btw you are the 1 that started the knocking--go back and read b4 saying anything ok....

Neither of those was helpful.

you started it troll---everyone will agree--go back and read the posts--all you do is try to turn it around onto someone else and I aint gonna take that shit off you .

and you don't know nuthin about joe--quit trying to act like you do.....

The book is an awesome tool. Nobody is trying to sell a book, just recommending it. Damn Vorpal....... what is going on with you. Everyone has an opinion or suggestion other than yours. Who cares.

Here is some info out of the book. Thumbs up. I ran into Richard at Buck 2 weeks ago and his second book is almost or is now at print. Can't wait to see it.

Like I said quite clearly.......

The link is posted quite clearly.

I don't think you can read? I said I read it!!

OK, verpil what is the problem? This is the second thread in a row you took and made it your own?

The book was written by someone who was THERE during the design, and manufacturing process and was taking notes for the book... Joe made reference to the markings on one blade and said the Seals had some input? How is that a complete history of the Buckmaster? GET THE BOOK....

Don

Well this has turned fast, it's kind of astounding how quickly things can turn.

I appreciate the info about the book, and if I was really really interested in the knife I'd probably love to have it.
If I ever do get more interested in the 184 the book would be a great resource, after all a book full of pictures would be as good as having the actual knives when they can be too collectables to use.

A member who has the book emailed me and basically answered my question, and that's great.
It seems the 184 BUCKMASTER was in some way was actually meant for the seals as is often said.
Now whenever I hear this I don't have to think " thats probably just a rumor ".

Awesome, thanks

Ok, the OP is satisfied with his answer and I could lock this thread and stop the dodge ball game but I don't want to keep someone else from asking a valid 184 question if they can get by the pot hole in the road so I am not locking it , for now. But I will if the DB game keeps going.
I hated when the teacher made us play dodge ball in school, the two or three biggest guys who were already getting hair under their arms enjoyed slamming the little kids. Any time that people turn on each other or me I usually think of those dodge ball games an how pointless the activity was in gym class. I wonder if kids still have to play that in Physical Education. Oh, I guess PE has been dropped because of budget cuts and concussion issues.

In the early 2000's we used these smaller squishy sponge balls with a vinyl outside which had a hole in them allowing them to compress and expand back when thrown.
Basically like a very soft Nerf ball with a durable skin.

Anyways because of these balls which didn't hurt, we all looked forward to playing Dodge ball in gym class.
You couldn't get hurt unless you fell or something so it was definitely fun.

I loved dodge ball.
We would even play our own games during recess with a normal ball which I loved even though I was the perfect example of a kid who should hate it.
Some may think of the current generation as sissyfied, but it's more stupidity than anything else.
Who would want to play things like butts up or knuckles.
The former involved getting pegged with a tennis ball when you run to touch the wall ball wall as a game penalty, and the other punching hands with someone till the looser bleeds first.

First of all I just want to say that I suck at finding anything with the forum search, and that if there's a thread already I'm sorry.

The thread regarding 119 and potential issue got me thinking.

Was the BUCKMASTER just made to cache in on the 1980's Rambo craze, or is there any validity to the Navy seals thing ?

By Navy seals thing Im talking about how it's often said the BUCKMASTER was designed for the Navy seals, and that the removable spikes are supposedly there so it can be used as an anchor, retrieval hook ...ect.

There's a popular picture of a seal in a boat with one, but that only shows that a soldier could carry whatever he could afford, not that it was designed for or marketed to seals in any way.

If anyone knows I'd sure appreciate any info you can give me.

They were used by Seals. The weird looking anchor points where apparently for a seal to anchor his gear underwater to something where it would remain hidden but the current wouldn’t wash it away.

Of course that means your knife is getting left behind.

the book is The Only Authorized documented history of the buckmaster 184 to date.
can't recommend it highly enough.
it is THE reference go-to book.
have a copy myself.
and all this for a knife which though looked cool in its day;
surely wasn't the easiest piece of gear to lug around in the field...
it seriously weighted a ton.
but i suppose any weigh that would have cancelled out
and worked just fine in an underwater marine environment.
a word of caution though, be careful not to drop the precious collectable relic
tip down on concrete.
i fear it could shatter the myth
of its legendary SEAL toughness.
just saying.
still wishing buck would do a rehash
with upgrades to fix its present shortcomings.
how ironic that its now a design classic that have endured
and certainly outlived its naysayers.
