BUCKMASTER seals myth ?

"You may need to hold in place off some beach head while waiting for the rest of your team to get into their positions. It is hard to just float in the ocean, and swimming against a current is exhausting at best. But, if you can jam the pins on your buckmaster under a rock, you could simply tie into the lanyard and just float around and relax."

Or........you could just tie the rope to a rock.

:p

Ok, I give in. Should of done this back in the 5135 days. Ignore button activated. Let the party begin:)

I've got 2 people on my ignore list, pretty sure I was just checking out my profile when I stumbled across the function.

Curious about the ignore feature...maybe should start a new thread but this one seems dead a couple pages ago or all covered in the past......what happens when I put someone on ignore? Does it make it so I can't see all their ridiculous posts? Will I not be annoyed with their pathetic posts which lead me to believe we are dealing with another "teenage son" taking over their account??????? Will I not have to hear that only the "old steel" that Buck used was worth a damn, and when I say old I mean the ones with the Idaho tang stamp, you know......early 2000's, the old stuff......

Read it, starts off with needing pics cause they aren't familiar with it,

On the contrary, most of the survivalists on that forum are quite familiar with it and made sensible comments such as this:

Many knife companies can send freebies to a SEAL Team and then claim that there stuff is used by, etc., etc.. The Buckmaster might have been more than that, it might have been assigned a National Stock Number (NSN), I don't recall.

I had a Buckmaster, which is what the #184 is, when I was a teenager. It beat me to death hiking with that thing one time and I never carried it again.

The knife is extremely heavy for that size knife.

The saw is not a real saw. It's useless.

As someone said earlier, it is more of a collector's item. Can you survive with it? Absolutely, you can survive with a lot of different things but when you consider that you could purchase an ESEE Cutlery SERE-5 and then still have money left over to purchase a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II Backpack and then still have enough money left over to start filling the backpack with vital gear...no, the Buckmaster just doesn't come through as an intelligent purchase.

Truth is, the Buckmaster is a desirable collector's piece. They have value due to rarity and they have rarity due to being pretty useless in real life. An Awesome hunk of steel that grabs your attention immediately.......and deserves to be hung on a wall or placed in a display case.
The SEALS, according to the story, bought some and then never bought any more. So.....even if the story is true.......the story reveals that it was lacking in some respects.

Were the ESEE Cutlery SERE-5 and Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II Backpack around at the time of the Buckmaster?

Anyone know the weight difference between a Buckmaster and a Ka-Bar or Camillus Marine knife?

Its next to a godly experience. Or catching the largest trout you have ever seen. Winning the lottery. Etc.:)

Yep! Great feature. You’ll have a button that says “show ignored content” where you can see their posts within a thread and determine whether they’re off their meds or not.

I wish everyone used this feature. It’s the best troll intervention!

When I used my ignore button everything that person posted disappeared there is no option, for me to look. So it's like they were never there...Which I think is better yet...

Don

P.S. It is too bad about this particular thread, it could have been a really good one...The beginning of Phrobis developing the first sample knife for, I believe they were for SEAL Team 7. It spurred off a lot of other knives, bayonets and so forth...

I see someone named Ignored Member made a post so I opened but there is no content here.

Whats the point of having a forum if every like minded individual says the same thing?
A forum post would be the original poster with 12 likes.
I guess that is the way the world has been working these days anyway. Ignore.
I am boycotting this subforum and if I ever make a Buck related post, I ask it is not moved to this subforum. Until the ignore feature is removed.

ive never ignored anyone yet...im sure ive been ignored as i have my moments. is what it is.........

I just use the scroll on by strategy most of the time.

It allows scanning of posts. You never know when a poster who seems to be lacking knowledge will say something wise.

Looks like some of the folks here should start their own thread on ignoring people.

They now seem to be ignoring Buckmasters.

:p

It's not that, so much as those that over time, show that they are more interested in verbal combat and spreading chaos, rather than discussion. At a certain point you just get tired of seeing it.

Back to Buckmasters.

Here's one owner's opinion.

http://fineblade.blogspot.com/2012/04/worst-knife-in-my-collection.html

Note that he still wants it in his collection, though. Like most people.....he can't resist the look.

He says, "Still, I never regret trading Mike for this knife. It's value has only gone up while I'm sure that Casio watch went into the trash a decade or two ago."

The allure and mystique of the Buckmark.......it's a constant.

:)
