I don't consider myself a 184 collector, only got one, more as a hollow handle survival knife collector, but I still thought Richard's book was a great read, and the kindle version has all the great photos of the print one and is only $9.99.
Mine is one of the later and most common variations.

love that picture. i always think of it when i hear or see 184.
Nice 184 Bear Claw...Do you have the sheath? I'm assuming you do...

Nice!!
Contact DP77 and see if he can come up with a pouch for you?? The compasses are available but they might be a little pricey...I got one from feebay for 40$ but I think I got lucky?
Don
sed on restoration.
I might, if I were more collecting this as a Buck collector, I'd put more into restoring it, truth is, I may use it some just for the fun of it, so not really to focused on restoring it to original. Can't imagine lugging this brick around much though!![]()
Yep that's the exact picture I've seen online.
Any you can tell this is obviously mid or early 80's based on that guy in the back having an A1, and the one who's got the 184 holding what I believe is an XM177.
Definitely a cool picture.
The guy in the back right has an A1 with triangular handguard, while the guy in front with the 184 seems to have a version of the XM177 ( often called the Car-15 ) which is the predecessor to the modern M4 carbine that I believe came out in the mid 90'sI agree! Some SEALS were upset the Navy didn't purchase them so they bought their own on the open market...The picture had to be after 1984 which was the first production year for the 184...Wouldn't the M16 be an A2...The handguards are different than the A1?
