I was wondering if you had both. I only have the mismarked one.

I wonder what portion of the production was actually mismarked. It seems like the mismarks are actually easier to come by. I bought my first one a while back thinking that it was S30V.

I´d have few questions about Speed bump (especially with aluminium handles):
1) What about the stud lock? I know there was topic about it, but there wasn´t any definitive yes or not result. I´d like know how securely does this lock hold opened blade. Does it have any blade play like some backlocks? How strong is it?
I know there were mentioned some problems with one small plastic piece, which holds spring of stud on right place - it was falling out! I´m worry about it.
2) Assisted opening - how does it perform? Spring doesn´t look very longlasting.
3) Sharpening - will I be able to resharp recurved blade with Lansky sharpening system?

Thank you very much

JaK, I can't speak from experience, unless just over 24 hours counts...but I got an aluminum handled Speed Bump (1595ALBLK) yesterday. So far, I'm very impressed. Nice balance, good weight, nice thin profile, SpeedSafe works like a charm, Kershaw sharp right out of the box. The stud lock seems very strong. I've no experience with the Lansky, but recurves are no problem with a Sharpmaker. I'll be putting it to a few tests this weekend, so I'll know more then. But for now, I'm impressed...its a very nice knife.

thank you for such a quick answer. I´m looking for my new EDC knife instead of recent semi serrated Kershaw Steven Seagal.
My other favorites are Kershaw Cyclone and CRKT Full throttle (i find the second one very cool, but not big enought)

EDIT: In my opinion Spec/Speed Bumps are very interesting from technical point of view. It must be definitely fun to play with one. But there is a question, how long does the knife last.

You should give the Bump a try. There is no Blade Play in any of the 9 stud lock Bumps I own. They are built very soildly and I find the lock to be both very convenient/easy to use and very reliable.

The torsion bars in the SpeedSafe mechanism are tested to withstand 10,000 open/close cycles. As I stated earlier in the thread: some will last longer some will fall short of 10000. I have carried Speed Safe knives for 5ish years and have never had a torsion bar fail. Besides, if it does they will send you new ones for free.

I say take the plunge and get yer self one. I guarantee that if you EDC a Stud Lock knife for a week, then EDC something else you will be reaching for that stud lock to close the knife for the next 2 weeks. It is very natural and reliable.

Best of luck on picking a new knife.

As i said - I have great experience with kershaw. Seagal is my best folder. But never had any Speedsafe knife. So I dont know much about it. I think I should change it.;)

Recurved blades cut very well (IMO), but they´re much more difficult to resharp. I want new knife for every day carrying/using so I must be able to make it sharp. Could anybody reccomend "best" equipment to resharp recurved blades?

One more question about speed safe: Is it better to let the knife opened, when it is not used? I always let my Mikov switchblade opened, when I know I won´t use it for longer time.
IMHO if the spring isn´t compressed, it will last longer.

You get different answers on that question. I store mine closed, as most people do. I have read that Ken Onion, Speedsafe designer, stores his open.

I did not know that...I leave mine closed, too, but thinking of how the Speedsafe operates, leaving them in the open position keeps the constant tension off the spring...Interesting!

Yup, that little gem about how KO stores his knives came from Mitch Lum, I guess if anyone would know, it would be him. If I recall correctly, Mitch says he stores his closed. If there are any Kershaw employees bouncing around in here today.....How do you store you Speed Safe knives?

Yeah, we need to hear from Thomas....I've never heard or read exactly what Kershaw recommends.

I'd hate to find out later that I need to replace a BUNCH of springs all at one time!

I'm sure the CS department would hate it more than any of us.

Hello all, Bumps are one of my top favorite designs. I want to add the BLUE ALUMINUM BUMP to the list.

and my all time favorite (although a "prototype"), the "striderized" Bump.

Maybe suitable for a ZT sprint run, heh?

Uh......what? Where have you seen a blue Aluminum Bump and more importantly why don't I have one?

Any reputable internet dealer sell the black aluminum studlock bump or is the bay the best place to get them?

I had been holding back from getting a speed bump because I didn't like the handle. Now that I know that there is an aluminum alternative, I must have one.

It's a first, folks! spiral hasn't seen, nor does he own, a blue Bump!

I'm sure Thomas can hook you up, but watch out for ol...you know how he is...

Reputable internet dealer...hmmmm...NGK comes to mind, but they probably don't have the ALBLK. Check the bay, look for Idealoutdoors. They have em running at about $ 45 or so, without shipping. P/N 1595ALBLK. That's where I got my black aluminum Bump. No problems dealing with them, either.

Yeah, next thing you know he'll be in your driveway waiting on
the brown truck, beat the hell out of the man and take your package. ;)

I'll keep my eyes peeled for shifty, shady, types. I'm sure that would describe OL, right? And I'll remember not to turn my back to him.

I have asked Thomas about all the Bumps and there was no mention of a Blue one. It would have to be either a non catalog knife or a prototype...... I'll get to the bottom of this.
