On Sept. 1st at 5:06PM, I sent an e-mail to burf stating I was interested, and asking for more pictures.

He replied back on Sept. 2nd at 7:12AM stating.

I replied back on Sept. 3rd confirming it was ok to pay, as I saw another user post his interest.

He replied back shortly after stating he gave it to the other individual.

He was cordial, but for being an "established" member, seemed like pretty shady behavior.

Who? There is no such user as burf_151. There is a burf151, but he hasn't posted since 2008.

Anyway it sounds like you didn't say you'd take it until after the other buyer did.

Aha! Seems the search engine isn't working as well as it might be. Burf151 has posted since 2008. This seems to be referring to http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8606495

According to the thread, you didn't just say you were interested on the 1st -- you posted:
I'll take it! You have e-mail.

But then, instead of sending payment, you asked for more pictures? And you're surprised that he sold it to someone else?

Ridiculous thread. "I'll take it" means you've done all the looking and deciding you need to do already and you're ready to pay.

It sounds like the OP was wanting to buy a knife Burf151 was selling. In that case, the seller has the right to sell his/her knife to whoever he/she chooses. If you asked for more pictures of the knife and the knife was sold to someone else in the meantime, you have no right to be upset.

With only two posts I can understand the Seller deciding on another buyer.

sadly Newbies suffer when scammers make a presence...............................

"I'll take it" means "I'm ready to pay." When you asked for more pictures, you downgraded your status to "I'm still deciding." Little wonder he sold elsewhere.

Ask for pictures, make up your mind, and if you still want it, then post "I'll take it," keeping in mind the seller is free to sell elsewhere up to that final point.

Just to add...

"I'll take it" is not a way to put a hold on a knife. Check out recent GBU threads on Berak and FriskyDingo.

You all must be lawyers, because the only thing you've mentioned are semantics.

I can ask for someone's paypal to send the money AND ask for some more pics at the same time. It's not indicative of not having my mind made up, but wanting to see more of the knife.

You guys sure are a "fun" bunch; thanks for your comments. :jerkit:

You're welcome for my comments.

And welcome to Bladeforums as well.

If you were 100% dead set on purchasing, regardless of what you saw in the pics, then yes, I agree with this minus the jerkit and smart butt response(but saying your interested contradicts the Ill take it. Is your response exact words?). From the sounds of your intital post, your Ill take it did sound somewhat conditional when you requested more pics and simply said you were Interested. But if the pics would not of deterred you either way then I think you might have a point though its no reason to get that upset over. Heck, I dont really even care if someone posts an ill take it and backs out anymore. I more then likely didnt wanna do business with that type of person anyway.

Dont let this one incident leave a bad taste in your mouth. Lots of good members out there to do business with

Bullshit. Why would you ask someone to go to the trouble to take more pics when, inside a week, you're going to see the knife in person? To put on a greeting card? To alleviate anxiety about your decision? That decision should have already been made.

I can think of two reasons for asking:

1. You were still deciding.
2. You wanted to list the knife elsewhere and flip it in a hurry.

In the first scenario, you should be sure before you post "I'll take it." In the second, you should be patient and take your own sale pics.

oh good lord. here we go again.

if you didn't send the money because you wanted to see more pics, that means your "ill take it" was more of an "ill take it maybe, but i want to see more pics first".

I've read the forum rules, and I have yet to see a "way" to put a hold on a knife.

that's because it doesn't exist.

Well, I'm not defending the OP, but I do like to get pictures to amuse myself while waiting for the package to arrive. Yeah, inside a week, but it can be a long week... :)
