burf_151 - Backed out of knife deal

Well, I'm not defending the OP, but I do like to get pictures to amuse myself while waiting for the package to arrive. Yeah, inside a week, but it can be a long week... :)

i have no problem with that, so long as the buyer has paid.

"here's your money, and btw, could you send me a couple pics so i can drool a bit while i wait for my new knife?"

Bullshit. Why would you ask someone to go to the trouble to take more pics when, inside a week, you're going to see the knife in person? To shore up your decision? To put on a greeting card? That decision should have already been made.

I can think of two reasons for asking:

1. You were still deciding.
2. You wanted to list the knife elsewhere and flip it in a hurry.

In the first scenario, you should be sure before you post "I'll take it." In the second, you should be patient and take your own sale pics.

I disagree.

I originally thought the OP had posted an "I'll take it" and then asked for more pictures to help him decide if he actually wanted to purchase the knife or not. However, it sounds like he wanted to purchase the knife regardless. I've bought knives and asked the seller to send me more pictures just so I could drool over them until the knife arrived at my door. If this is the case, then I see nothing wrong with asking for pictures and I was off base with my initial post.

Either way, I still stand behind the idea that the seller can choose who s/he wants to do business with.

Hint for future reference:

First, pay for knife.

THEN, request knife porn for that "special session" with your sock.
(Okay, I thought of a third reason.)

On Sept. 1st at 5:06PM, I sent an e-mail to burf stating I was interested, and asking for more pictures.

He replied back on Sept. 2nd at 7:12AM stating.

I replied back on Sept. 3rd confirming it was ok to pay, as I saw another user post his interest.

He replied back shortly after stating he gave it to the other individual.

He was cordial, but for being an "established" member, seemed like pretty shady behavior.

Stating what?

Plus, you waited until the next day to get back in touch with the seller, and only because there was another member who had manifested interest in that knife.

not so sure about that. look at the dates.

in the sales thread, his post says "ill take it" on sept 1.

his email says "interested".

by sept 3, has not paid.

Lame to some, esp non knife people, but I agree with that. A week can be a long time when your real excited about something.

Regardless, if you did post and Ill take it, then after send an email requesting pics and that your interested(as stated in op), then its an conditional Ill take it which means squat. The seller cant risk losing out on a sale if he doesnt have a solid commitment. Now if you worded it along the lines of, "I stand by my Ill take it but could you send a few more pics so I can make a new screen saver collage :p" then thats understandable to me, but it doesnt sound that way.

When you got the PayPal address did you send the money?

Oh geez, how did I miss that . Considering the timeline, the seller did nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, I would have done the same thing.

What is it with all these people lately who can't seem to grasp the rules and ethics of buying knives here on BF?

I realise that integrity and honour are becoming a thing of the past but, really, this is getting ridiculous.

.

When I pay for a knife, I want the seller to ship it, not photograph it. The whole practice of requesting pictures after a sale seems (a) a nuisance to the seller, (b) a way to possibly delay shipment, and (c) odd.

The anticipation of getting the knife is enough for me. I don't need props. :p

This is getting a little off track but it doesn't take but 5 minutes to snap a couple of pictures for a buyer. Hardly enough time to get in the way of actually shipping a knife.

again, if you have already paid, i'll try and get some additional pics to you if requested.

if you are asking for pics and aren't paying because the pics haven't arrived, that's not an "ill take it". which is fine, people ask for more pics all the time. but we should not confuse the two.

one is unconditional, one is conditional.

Guyon, you can think you're so smart that you know the only possible scenarios, but believe me, you're not. Like many others have posted, I just wanted to see more of the knife. You may think I'm odd, but I think way worse of you thus far.

Dericdesmond, thanks for your insight. I'm done with this conversation, and some of these people. Time to do drool over my new Emerson Karambit.

Yep, I was referring to a situation where a buyer requests more pictures after purchasing the knife.

you'll be back.

they all come back.

I think what we need is training for new members on how to purchase a knife on the exchange here on Bladeforums....

Ouch. But I did mention the sock.

Like MORIMOTOM said, prioritize payment and then ask for more pics if that floats your boat. As a seller though, I do tend to take care with my sale pics, but I don't own a light box. I take pictures when there's good natural light outside. I guess that's why I'd view such a request as a slight hassle and a potential delay. I wouldn't want to send someone a poorly lit interior pic.

What you say is "I'll Take it and send payment upon Confirmation". Upon recieving Confirmation you send payment. Very simple, very straight forward.

Otherwise your still haggling regardless of what you think.

Decisive, motivated buyers win. Period.

Exactly. This is a dead, done deal.
