Burl Blocks Contest - 6 Drawings/6 Winners

I'm in.

I've been roasting my own coffee lately... makes for an incredible cup, the house smells awesome, and if you do it right it's pretty affordable.

Received My block today. Looks great. I only get to work on my projects on the weekends. So give my a few weeks and I may be able to post the Pics. Thank you for the giveway and for my block of wood.

I haven't made it home yet but my gf just called and said it showed up. I'll need to design a knife around this one, I've never tried a full tang but I might try it with this one, unless it looks like I can get 2 smaller knives out of it. can't wait to get started though. hopefully I'll have time this weekend to start profiling and grinding.

I'm in , as a matter of fact I am about to finish my first stick tang knife,

Sorry for the delay posting the winner for the 4/14 drawing. Had connection problems. I am heading out today for a knife show so the next couple drawings will be later in the evenings as well.

Winner for the 4/14 Wednesday drawing is #7 Tattooed Freak!
Congratulations.

Just make a post here with which block you are claiming as your prize.

All right!!! Thanks much, I would love the sycamore piece, cant wait to make a handle out of it.

Hello everyone.
I was out of town for a show and just got back.
I found out why the motel room I booked online cost half what all the other motels cost. No internet just to mention one thing it did not have. I will do the remaining drawings this eve after I get everything unpacked. Phil got in touch for his block and tattooed freak I received your mailing address. Sorry for the interuption in the contest.

I'm just glad to hear that every things OK. Like I need someone else to worry about Jeesh!
When I was a will-o-the-wisp bachelor I was truly carefree.
Been married 25 years, and what with wife and kids and a menagerie of animals that I can't help but wanna hug and protect I really never have a worry free minute.
Hope you had a weekend better that the motel room would suggest.
Take care and "keep in touch"!

The winner for the last drawing is #35 - Teacher
There are 2 blocks left; #s E & F
Phil705 and Teacher are the 2 remaining winners so who ever posts first gets first choice between these two blocks. They are both real nice.
Post which one you are getting here and send me a PM or Email with your mailing address. If I have the addresses, the winning blocks will be mailed tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who played.

Phil705 sent me a PM requesting the Redwood block #F
...so Teacher gets block #E, the redheart maple burl.

Thanks everybody. I hope this was fun for you.

Mark.
Thank you very much for the contest. I really want to do justice to both the wood and your generosity.
It's new scales for either my Emerson Persian or Mini-Commander. Maybe both if it can be done. What a nice pair that would make.
Thank you very much.
I will post pics.

Yes, thanks it was fun. I can't wait to put the block to use. How was the show, aside from the hotel room?

The show was fun. It was the 35th annual Oregon Knife Collectors show. There were about 500 tables so it was pretty big. 1st day was members only and I had a lot of the other table holders and some suppliers buying wood. The knife makers were buying a pretty even mix of maple, redwood and buckeye burl. The suppliers bought lots of redwood, both burl and curly. I wonder if they know something.

Bruce Bump won both; Best Damascus and Best of Show.
The award winning knives were all photographed using some of my bigger burl slabs as the background.

As usual I brought too much wood with me. I had a 32 foot stretch of table space along the back wall that I piled 2 or 3 deep with blocks, scales, burl caps and slabs. I am always afraid I will forget to bring something.

To make a long story short; The Eugene Show is my favorite knife show.

It was really cool to get to chat with you at the show - you show how passionate you are about wood on the forums but it comes through even more in person.

thanks for the contest burl source. it was fun...id love to make it to the oregon show someday as it sounds like a good time.

Hi Aaron,
It was good to meet you in person. You have a great family.
I just received another box of weird wood from Australia. I will post some here soon when I get a chance to cut and sand it.

I think the Eugene Oregon show has the friendliest people. Plus it's pretty big and gets a lot of the public attending. If I ever quit doing shows I would still go to that one.

Thank you Mark,

PM received & reply sent....... sorry for the late reply but I was out of pocket Tuesday evening through this morning.

Very nice looking block.........

Thank you again and thank you for this neat contest!!!!

Best regards,
Cp
