Hello all..

I have been enjoyed Bladeforums.com for many years and have bought, sold, traded many knives with no issues.....until now. A member who goes by Framelockjack (Jack Ford) offered a trade for my Strider DGG SnG. I accepted a trade for a Sebenza with micarta inlay. He said he sent it out early last week and I sent the SnG the next day. I have yet to receive the Sebenza and now I just realized his google account (framelockjack@gmail.com) has been closed. Damn! Prior to the account being closed, I had sent him multiple messages and he did not respond.

I do have the address that I sent the Strider and will follow up with that angle but if this person planned to steal my knife from the beginning, he probably just has access to the mail delivered to that address but it isn't actually his.

Honestly, I haven't even processed what my next step will be. Any (legal) suggestions?

First off close this thread and start a new one in the Good, Bad and the Ugly. I am very sorry to hear this man I really feel you're pain. Did you check his Itrader feedback? As a general rule I will not even cosider trading with someone that doesn't atleast have 2-3 positive transactions, especially if its a high end knife such as the Strider.

I have no idea about what you can do as far as legal action goes but make sure you don't lose that address that he gave you as thats about all you have on this guy/girl. I truly hope for the best for you and don't forget to post this if the Good, bad, ugly as it will then be there for all eternity for people to browse so nobody else gets screwed by this lifeless crook!!

I feel your pain, but have pretty much come to the conclusion that I shouldn't do business over the net on anything I can't afford to loose. Just no way to really hold someone accountable if they don't want to be. Having said that, I have had great luck, but, that only goes so far.

Good luck.

Doc

First off close this thread and start a new one in the Good, Bad and the Ugly.

Do it the easy way. Use the Report Post button -- the triangle next to the post count # -- and ask a mod to move the thread, which I just did anyway.

(You can report your own thread.)

i think the fact that this guy joined two weeks ago today, has zero feedback, and has 3 posts should have been a red flag. hopefully you can get your knife back.

My guess is that this is has been a real learning experience.

Legally, I suppose you can contact the Postal Service and look into the possibility of having him charged with mail fraud.

Your chances of this turning out well are probably zero.

That is what I am hoping...that the knife will arrive soon and I'll be more than happy to eat crow and apologize to him and everyone else. But his address is in New York and I am in Northern Va, just outside of DC. That should be a two day delivery.

I am just a few minutes from the CIA and NSA....too bad I don't have access to their resources....

It will be a harsh learning experience but I am prepared to deal with that. I am also prepared to spend more money than the knife is worth to get justice, if it turns out to be what it appears to be.

It looks like he was communicating with other members on trades so beware!

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or help that is offered. I truely appreciate it!

It has gotten to the point that unless the person is a "regular" you should make them ship first, period.

I have "friends" in NY that might be able to help. Once you are sure you are the victim of a theft post all his info and I'll see what I can find out.

Man, this never seems to stop. I am sick of these pariah coming here and anywhere else where honest people meet in a shared passion. I am always leery of members whom are not "paying members". All you really have to go on are sketchy details, an email address and that's about it. I know hindsight is easy now, but maybe in the future require a reference(preferably a established BF member) or that they be a paid member with at least some kind of paper trail if things go south. Sorry your going through this though.

Hate to hear this man. The same member contacted me about a trade, to which I responded, and then he didn't contact me for three days. He said he had an emergency, and had to sell the sng. He did send pictures, but it wasn't a DGG. Very coincidental. I wish you good luck, maybe the knife is in the mail. It took a knife a sent 5 days to go to a town 3 hours away one time. I was freaking out, but just when I wrote it of it turned up. Maybe its. A combination of the usps, and poor communication. Keeping my fingers crossed for you...

Yes, if the e-mail account had not been cancelled then I would still be somewhat optimistic. I'll give it a couple more days before I post the address I sent the knife to.

Thanks again for the words of support. I know in the big picture this isn't a big deal....my family and I are happy, healthy, etc.....but that doesn't mean I am not pi$$ed.

True indeed! Not a big loss at all in the grand scheme of things. However, if you have indeed been ripped off...by a fellow American or one of our Canadian brothers...that is worthy of retaliation. If you have his shipping address, you can locate his very house on google.com and post a picture. I was ripped off last year by a younger gentleman, and after some other member posted a picture of his house via google satellite (and after he soiled his pants MORE than once) he hastily shipped my blade back as well as the other members blade. I say expose the coward and do us all a favor so we don't deal with him. I hope he takes the time to read this entire thread; he is an embarrassment. Keep at it, and you will find retribution.

Sorry for your loss and inconvenience. These matters should not happen in the first place.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

This is the exact reason I don't do trades much. It's also the reason I use only paypal rather than a mo. Happens way too much for me to take the chance.

When I get bogus looking orders I use this http://www.phonenumber.com/reverseaddress make sure your tick the box that says "include surrounding area" it will tell you who's there and sometimes their phone.

If unlisted it will also allow you, for a one time free trial use "Intellius" for a couple bucks and zero right in the crook, give his addresses, aliases, phone numbers, who lives in the household, their names etc..

Then you can report this to the authorities in his town.

Good luck bro! :(

I am receiving more help and advice than I ever expected and I wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate it. Some of the help is obvious and some is behind the scenes. Hopefully it will all work out and the thief will either send the knife back, send me the knife he was supposed to (if it even was in his possession in the first place), or send some other agreeable third option.

I originally posted this to warn other members who may be dealing with him but also to vent my frustration. The unexpected help I have already received has put a positive spin on this bad situation. Thanks again!

whatever happened to the "good old days" when this was a rare event, hasnt been that long ago that someone getting ripped was not common, happening more and more nowadays.

am sure ya are pissed, and yes, imho its a big deal, its a +$400 knife, thats a fair amount of money for anyone short of bill gates and its the principle involved also.

i guess i've been lucky, i have done dozens of buys/sells/swaps and have never had any problems, none at all, some with folks with post counts below 10 FWIW, i always wanted to give folks a chance.

i guess from now on i am gonna demand the other folks ship 1st, have always been a big believer in doing at the same time, unless i know ya of course.

a few years ago my girlfriend couldnt believe that i was shipping a $800 custom knife, + $400, to singapore, and he was shipping me a $1200 custom, and was even more amazed that it all worked out fine (the $400 was a b-day gift from her), on the 'net.

hopefully, if nothing else, the guy will get into trouble with the postal authorities, if nothing else, the scumbag.

probably gonna just have to chalk it up to live and learn though...................which is a shame, though i dont trade around much anymore i really used to enjoy it, but it woulda only taken 1 bad to turn me off to it, not to mention losing a $400+ knife, sure am sorry it happened to ya.

as far as what to do, barring going to the address ya have, contact the postal inspectors and see what they say.
