Burned on knife trade by member!

Sorry to hear about your problem, I have a similar one on another forum, though I don't know if that person hangs around here or not. I also stand to lose less than you, but I still understand. Hell you traded a knife in good faith, and expect to receive it, same as anyone else. I would definitely go to the Post Office and see what can be done there.

I know it's not always easy to tell who's gonna be good, but in my experience on this forum, I've always had a good deal with all those I have bought from or traded with. But I also tend to look for things like how long have they been on the forum, are they a gold or platinum member, (though that is by no means a guarantee, but still a decent gauge to work from), and how much they post. I find that those who tend to spend a lot of time here are generally good people who can be trusted to do business with. I also expect Delivery Confirmation or tracking number to be sent to me and I do the same. If I were to do a deal with someone who refused to use this, I would not proceed with the deal.

Have you tried to stop shipment of the knife you sent? Not sure if that can be done, but if you could get it held up at this framelockjackoff whatevers hometown post office, you might get your knife back.

I hope you get your knife, either the one you traded for, or the one that you sent out returned to you.

Unfortunately, it still comes down to

1) never deal in what you cannot afford to lose and never see again
2) we all have to start somewhere
3) the new guy with no feedback ships first

Sucks, don't it?

I've been I would think particularly lucky. I've had only a handful of "interesting experiences" and never been outright burned.

But I do follow these rules pretty closely.

I think everyone responding to your thread has been here long before the I-trader thing. It hardly tells the whole story.

But seeing a pile of positive numbers there is a real confidence booster.

A guy who's in for two weeks - I'm not shipping him a $400 knife before I see his. If he's not comfy with that, I'll send it to Easv or Keith, or someone like them, who's been here for the long haul instead.

Again, sucks, don't it? :barf:

I wish I could go with the postal inspectors because i have heard they take things quite seriously. The problem is that since he never sent anything, he technically didn't use the postal service for anything besides receiving my knife. I really don't have much more than a couple of e-mails to a now closed account. Legally, it boils down to my word against his.

Without going into details due to things progressing behind the scenes, hypothetically there is nothing to prevent a long time member with many positive transactions from 'going to the dark side', creating a new bladeforums identity, and taking advantage of our innate trust among fellow members. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I will never have that same trust again.

Not to make this a 'woe is me' sob story, but I have many knives but only allow myself to keep one really nice knife ($300+) at a time since these are basically big boy toys and my family has more appropriate needs (college funds, etc.). That SnG was my 'nice' knife which I was trading for another 'nice' knife. This bastard has messed that all up....

Next time, when someone said that they have shipped an item, ask them for the usps tracking info. Better yet, tell them to put your email when they are shipping the item so usps will email you the shipping tracking info directly. Check on it and if it's legit, send your knife. Just a friendly advice :) Don't get burned twice!

I know how it feels to lose your knife. Shame on framelockjack.

I agree to the post above me. This person will regret his actions. I hope everything goes well for you.

That is sufficient. Any use of the postal system at all in a fraud makes it mail fraud.

Legally, it boils down to my word against his.
Criminals love it when their victims say that. That way they never find out about all the other evidence, or that the criminal has been caught doing the same thing before and is currently on probation for it, or that criminals confess when interrogated. There's nothing like victims who say, well, it'd only be my word against his, and don't testify against them. If only all victims were like that no criminal would ever go to jail.

I think Parker is absolutely correct; we all must start somewhere but get the new guy to ship first.

If he refuses to or demands that you both ship at the same time then either pass up on the deal or parker's rule 1 should apply.

I think it's time you post all the identifying info you have on this person!!

One of the moderators is working with me to determine if a member in good standing who happens to have the same IP address as the one used by the bastard thief is one in the same..... I will post the info I have on Friday, if nothing productive happens before then.

I have submitted the information I have to the postal inspectors and it would be nice to receive my knife back ASAP so that I can tell them that everything worked out and there is no longer an issue....

I have an address, names of people who live at that address (I think it is a small apartment complex so multiple names and phone numbers), a map and satellite image of the address. I am not saying that any of the people who I may list are responsible for the dirty deed but maybe one of the names will be familiar to someone on here and karma will prevail.....

Well....it's Friday and still no good news so here is the info I have on this person. As I said before, this is just the address I sent the knife to. I don't know for sure if the bastard lives there or just has access to the mail delivered there.

Delivered to:

Deleted by me to protect the innocent
West Sand Lake, NY. 12196

Through research, here are the actual names of the people who live there. It must be a small apartment complex.

Deleted by me....

I have their telephone numbers and have left detailed messages. So far no response back but it has been less than a day since I left the messages.

Now, going on a long shot, here is my address. I am providing this in case the bastard wants to end all of this and send my knife back. Obviously, I provided this to him/her during our trade discussions but I am sure he didn't keep my info once he had my knife. It would be nice to see my knife appear in my mailbox so that I can end this and stop further action. :)

xxxxx

Please don't confuse my addess with the address of the bastard! Although I am sure I have been called that once or twice......

The wheels of justice are beginning to turn....:)

I have spoken to the actual resident of the apartment where I sent the knife and he provided the name and cell number of his friend who, he says, is the person I was corresponding with. I then called that person and he told me this has been a misunderstanding and the knife he was supposed to send to me must have been lost in the mail.... He is supposed to be researching what happened with his knife shipment and either will send that knife to me, as originally agreed, or will send my knife back to me.

I said the current Postal Inspection Service investigation would continue until I was satisfied with the results...... I reminded him that his friend would also be in serious legal trouble since it was his address involved.

To be continued....

Sure and he lost the tracking number too ...

Hopefully you will get your knife back - now when he knows he cannot hide anymore.

This is great news. I've been following this since the thread was started. I'm so happy to hear you might get your knife back. Keep us all up to date. Take Care and best of luck! :)

Fantastic News! Just wanted to note, my grandmother lives in Alexandria and i was born in Leesburg :) That is all.

Congratulations on that great detective work as well :) Youd make a great police officer!

:):D:):D:):D:):D

I still can't believe it but I just received a next day air package at my house and it contained my Strider SnG!!! Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sky is a little bluer, the birds are singing a bit louder, my coffee tastes even better.... LOL!

I want to thank anyone and everyone for their help and support to get my knife back. Some of it was obvious and some I still don't even know about but I saw hints of it. I especially want to thank Esav for going above and beyond and putting in a lot of time and effort to help me, someone he has never even met. I truely appreciate it and it makes me feel good that I have so many brothers (and sisters?) on here who are willing to help.

One funny aspect of this story...... When I spoke to the landlord of the house where I sent the knife, he initially was quite grumpy because he said he 'was tired of all of these people calling about this whole knife thing' and he was just going to give me the info I wanted so he wouldn't have to be involved. The funny part is that was the first time I had called......others must have tracked down his number already to get info on this bad guy. I have no idea who that may have been but I appreciate it!

3REDUCK just notified me he got his knife back.

Framelockjack AKA ottohoh AKA VG10 were all the one scammer and all usernames are now banned.

Great work by 3REDUCK with help from everyone who suggested ways to find the thief and everyone who called to let him know he wasn't going to win this one!
