Bushcraft Kit photo

I like them all. I'll play.

First aid, ace bandage, mosquito headnet, sunglasses for snow, etc. That bag goes no matter what. If I am backpacking, I just throw it in my pack. I know what is in it. I basically start w/ that, then add clothes, food, tent, stove, bag. That and my EDC pretty well covers it. Edited to add that the bag weighs about 4-4 1/2lbs.

Paracord, Fenix E0, Surefire w/ 130lm Cree drop-in, 10x100 firesteel, Brusletto Profileringskniv. Suunto Clipper.

Myakka, that's a superb looking kit you've got there!!!
Very nice indeed!!!
Love that leather pouch.

Where'd you get your Zebra-pot from? I haven't been able to locate any good dealers of them.
And your buschcrafter knife?

Myakka - how does the NATO water bottle and cup compare to Nalgene? How do you carry? Thanks

I really like the the NATO 58 water bottle and mug, but carring it is the problem. I made a Paracord net-sling to carry it. My Nalgene bottle nested in a SnowPeak Ti cup carries better ad seems to get more use.

Karl,
The Zebra billy can, I broke down and ordered it from Ray Mears because I couldnt find one anywhere else. As for the knife it is from SWC Handmade Knives (Steve Cox). Really nice tool.

Hmmm, that's the only place I've been able to locate the billy-can too.
Ah well, I'm close to caving in also, I just had a spark of hope when I saw your billy-can.
The knife looks just the ticket. I think I might have to make a search on the net for Steve Cox and SWC.

Mtnfolk Mike- who made the top knife in your pic. It looks like a black handle with a guard and can I see a closer pic of it. I like the looks of it. Thanks

I just got to ask if ya do any Buckskinning. That tin with the Pillow ticking forged hooks and the cork bobber. Not to mention the leather, Kinda shows someone into Historical trekking.

Thanks, I recognize it now. I have never handled a Bark River. I cannot wait to do so at BLADE.

I just posted this in another thread but it fits in here too.

My psk's have gone through many changes over the years. Like everybody I try to take as little as possible. KISS. I went through a hightec phase and found I began to add rather than eliminate non-essentials. (mainly because of all the cool gadgets out there) So I changed direction and went toward the primitive route. While I don't think you should skimp on a good first aid kit... I feel that what you think you need and what you really need are two totally different things. There are cases of people being lost for weeks, with no gear and no wilderness skills and still coming out alive... while other times the rescue teams find a hunter dead sitting next to his fully stocked pack. People die of shame not lack of a PSK. Its what you have inside you that determines the outcome. Replacing some gear with knowledge (weighs less) is often the best thing you can do for yourself. Learn to look to your surroundings for what you need... its really quite liberating. I'm still learning how to do this. Here are a few kits I've used when in the bush.

My old pouch (never left my side)... leatherman, needle/sinew, firesteel, jute, flashlight and sand paper.

My new pouch (never leaves my side)... flint, tinder fungus, aluminum foil, fatwood and flint striker

My bushbag (take on day hikes and over-nighters)... shoulder bag, poncho, compass, firesteel, SAK camper, cordage (jute, leather thong, paracord, decoy line), energy bars, canteen/cup combo.

Here are my main cutting tools that I swap in and out of service.

Magnussen, I'm always impressed with your kit. Ilike the simplicity, but the bases are covered. That knife you made looks great, and I like that leather bound striker too.
