But I wanna be cool too! (The titanium framelock flipper thread) got pics??

This thread needs more pictures.

Hey, palonej palonej , does that CRK have one of those spring loaded flipper tabs like on the 0055?

Well, i totally disagree. :D They have been popular for as long as i can remember. So the thought of them all of a sudden dropping off I dont see as a likely occurrence. But also because even if I dont like a product, I would not wish for a product to become unpopular simply because its not what I like. Id rather just hope what I do like would gain popularity so that I would have more options. Im not a hinderer, medford or CRK kind of guy. But i dont see how wishing those products to die off would benefit me in any way.
I wasn't saying that I want them to completely go away, I'm just getting tired of 75%+ of knife pictures being titanium and or flippers. I think that some people might get tired of having to worry about weather a knife has the smoothness and detent it requires to function, and just move onto something else where it's not an issue.

That opinion's certainly your right, but why bring that point up in a thread that is specifically asking for members to

.... Post some pics of your favorite if you have them, and since I want to add to my collection a great execution for this style of folder, let me know what you'd suggest to a friend to buy. Price range for me is $200 max- but post anything you want!!

If you are sick of titanium framelocks, why even come stir the thread? o_O

A few more that have passed through my hands. IMG_0047.JPGIMG_0350.JPGIMG_0381.JPGIMG_0428.JPGIMG_0432.JPG

Hmm. I dont see that happening with me. Given those are the things I look for in a knife. All i know is if i woke up tomorrow and all i could get was a traditional id be out of the knife hobby. Gadgetry is what fuels my knife obsession.

I dont think he means all knives should be traditional, but just not another run of the mill, man jewelry looking titanium flipper. Where are the innovative spin offs to the appearance and locking mechanisms like CRK's Ti Lock, Demkos Scorpion lock, Spydies Compression lock etc. Why not try implement similar spinoffs on some more traditional or purpose built designs for a different aesthetic? There are more ways knives can be opened, closed and locked up other than a Ti frame lock. But, they're easy to make for all kinds of manufacturers, the mechanics have been around forever and everyone can have a crack at making them. Seems easy to milk the cash train with a few bearings a flipper tab and some fancy looking wanna be custom pivot caps. Problem is, they just don't seem to have much personality any more (in my opinion). But as you said gadgetry is a huge part of the hobby, so if Ti flipper frame locks do it for ya then there's nothing wrong with it, just feels like makers are just lazy and very few are prepared to try spice things up.

Lots of fun rhetoric in this thread  but for the OP here's a quick & dirty pic of most of my TFFs, all under $200 (Southard via the Exchange).

TFF's were the majority of my collection for a while. Not true now.

My favorites from above are the 0450 and the Southard. The 0900 is such a beasty little knife though...it always gives me a smile--that alone is worth the price I paid. The 0801 is a bit heavy and thick behind the edge, but the ergos (for my hand) and flipping action are stellar.

Great post man, loving all 4 and this is what I was looking for when I started the post. The southard is beautiful but that pricetag is making me want to save up because I know it's worth it. Thanks for the pic and the description

The fit & finish of the Southard are fantastic. One can be had safely below $200 on the Exchange wih patience. If you haven't handled one, it's not as snappy of a flipper as the ZT's. It uses more of a push-button motion which is why the flipper tab is sloped and jimping free. It took me a bit to get used to it, as I was accustomed to the 0450 & 0801 at the time.

Well, there certainly has been a lack of innovation lately in knives. But as to the specific examples you mention they are out there. They are just limited to those brands in which they are patented. Some locks work well. But much of ti frame locks I feel falls under the "how little can i do for a whole lotta money". But i also think frame locks are a good lock regardless of the lack of creativity.

Since you all have such awesome collections, and I'm looking to add a TFF to my own collection: What is the thinnest, slice-iest framelock flipper (about 3-3.25", give or take) that you know of? I really don't need sturdy so much as laserlike. I just couldn't Dremel out enough of my Opinel to make the action work. :D
