Butterfly Brigade... FALL IN!! (BM Enthusiast Group open application thread)

I'd like to reserve number 46.

I've got "a few" benchmades. Maybe I'll try calculating the points if the point system sticks.

sigh, i never understood the need for "groups" on bladeforums... i feel they only serve to divide us and potentially make us bias. i have jiffy pop set aside for the group war i foresee in the near future hah. are subforums and manufacturer forums not enough? to each their own, so therefore i have no brand loyalty. if rocking a banner makes you "cool", i'll rock one of my own :)

Aside from all of the other good reasons to do so the idea of the group compelled me to re-up my membership dues.

1987 it is! That was the year I acquired my first BM bali.

Here are some of mine, one of which not pictured (yet) is my Forum Knife 705 in M2 steel. I have #1, which #1 of anything is typically reserved for Les :). The late Pete Conway, I, and a handful of others "con-vinced" BM to make that first Forum Knife.

I miss ya, Pete.

Prof.

The day you see a group war on BF is the day you see them shut down. So if groups irk you enough, better hope its members do start acting up. So far so good though. There's no "need" for a lot of things including owning an obscene amount of knives when a couple is all that is "needed" in life. Groups in forums are nothing new and not just knife forums. Its really simple to just ...Not join, if it made YOU feel "cooler" not to.

oh dont misconstrue what i meant, groups by no means "irk" me in any way. its just my humble opinion and reasoning as to why not to join a brand based group (group member giveaways are tempting however). i love the brand passion, admiration & enthusiam expressed in these subforums. its a great way for members to voice their appreciation/opinions/concerns to the makers. i just hope as another member said that members of these groups do not get overzealous (IE, the mantis militia lol) :). also, if i offended you in anyway when i declined to join the spydernation in your pm request from a few days ago i apologize. i didnt decline because i felt i was "cooler/better" in any way... its just not my thing.

edit: i dont feel this needs to be debated any further as its derailing the thread. best of luck to the benchmade owners group and its members moving forward.

I agree, questioning the "need" for groups shouldn't be done or discussed on a group sign up page. There's a thread for that here on the BM subforum if needed (which is not). Or perhaps whine and cheese. And no, I was not offended by our friendly PM exchanges. I invited many people for differing reasons, I simply asked because we are practically next door neighbors, I grew up on Sloat/Lake Merced also. Thought that warranted a friendly invite, but bringing that up here is a moot point as I am replying to your comments here which has nothing to do with our private conversation.

I'm trying to get the money to gether to buy a mini grip if you guys are willing to bear with me.....I'd like to reserve #0777
It might take me some time but.....I guarantee the next knife I buy will be a mini grip sooooooooo..thanks!

I would like to point out this illness I have it's called superpoorteenager..there is no cure at this time lol

So how many knives do you have now that you could possibly sell to help fund a mini-Grip? How close are you to buying one? $15? $30? $50? Used ones aren't too expensive, so you may be closer than you think...

Ok. I'll play, gonna have to take #99, I am not sure what to make of the point system, although a quick calculation says I gots 99 points in Gold class and balisongs alone:D the final number will be bigger, but that'll do for now I reckon

As far as I know, we are waiting a few months to let the subforum settle a bit before we continue. I don't care either way. Of course, anyone who elects to help spearhead the group along with jehicks87 can decide.

We can get in touch with BenchmadeRep and get the ok, perhaps someone needs to step up to PM him.

It looks like member numbers are being reserved for now. I got mine!

I've already left a visitor message on the Rep's profile page. Just waiting until they respond. Glad to see all the interest here!

Spydernation pushed me to buy a gold membership :D
And I just got my 550 custom today I got a thread up for it and I'm loving my ritter grip a lot.

Well, I've been away from the forums for awhile (since before BM had a s/f) and would be interested in joining this group if it ever gets off the ground. I would like to reserve #0077.

An update guys, I received a reply to my PM to Benchmade and they are giving us their blessing to continue on with starting the group. I assume there are some of you that are still interested?

The name situation hasn't been settled yet. The most recent discussion was about coming up with a new one. BM Squad? Butterfly Effect? Let's get your suggestions out and we can do a poll if needed.

Numbers originally reserved still apply.

I haven't been around much because work picked up so "eff off time" went drastically down lol.

I got your email, I personally never heard back from BM but if they gave it a green light it's on!

I would like to be a member, even though I know I don't have the requisite post count yet. Request member #610.

I got into knives when I was issued a Benchmade 9050 AFO for a deployment when I was in the Air Force back in 2005. I was amazed with the knife as it was better than any pocket knife I had previously seen. It being an auto probably helped, but I loved that knife. Unfortunately, it was stolen from out of my wall locker during my deployment. Later on, I made it to an AAFES in Kuwait and they had a 551BK OD Griptilian in a clam shell pack there. I bought it and was impressed (though not as impressed as with the 9050). I carried the Griptilian for the rest of my deployment and it held up quite well. So began my affection for Benchmade knives.

Here is my current collection:
BM 610 Rukus
BM 615S Mini Rukus
BM 630 Skirmish
BM 520SBK Presidio
BM 551SBK Griptilian
BM 930 Kulgera
BM 810 Contego

I also have previously owned:
BM 9050SBK AFO
BM 4200SBK Snody Auto Resistor
Benchmade 527 Mini-Presidio Ultra.

I believe that is 12 points according to the scale above.
