Buying my man a pocket knife. HELP!

Another idea that has a more traditional look is the buck limited edition series. Its made of newer materials like BG42 steel which is real good stuff thats found in much more expensive knives. Its also got filework on it, which you can't see in the pictures Buck Limited Edition
Filework gives the knife a more handmade look.
The best thing I can find to explain what it is, is this webpage. filework Its put up by Bruce Evans. He's a knife maker who frequents the forums and does some really neat stuff. The filework on the buck knife won't be nearly as neat as the vine on the knife bruce does in that webpage, but it still gives the knife a nice look. It will be on the liners of the handle instead of the back of the blade also.

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer... but I've got the sharpest knife in the room.

KnifeKnuts,

Thanks for being so helpful to me. I have a great list of knives now that I can check out and really make an informed choice. I am so NOT stressed and confused like I was yesterday morning before I discovered all of you!

My real problem is going to be after I get the knife for my guy. Then I will be looking for a new knife for me and I sure hope that they make some with purple handles. Purple IS my favorite color and a purple knife would go with just about anything! tee hee hee.....

I'll definitely keep you posted, and I'll be sure and ask if I have more questions as I narrow down my list.

And of course I will let you know which knife I finally decide on. If you have any other ideas, please let me know. I probably won't make my final decision for another day or two. But I better hurry so I can get it ordered and here in time for Christmas.

thanks again for being so cool,

judy (totally)

Judy,
I haven't seen any of the Kershaw Ken Onion knives recommended. I have both a Random Task and a Mini-Task. They feature Ken's Speed-Safe assisted opening system, and premium materials. I think the mini-task can be had for just under $100, and the Random Task for just over $100. I have some pics of mine at www.students.washington.edu/mitchlum/randtask.html

I think William Henry make nice knives, but are closer to $200. The Chris Reeve Sebenza is probably one of the best knives to be had, but is in the $300 range.

Just a note, last year when I found this place, I owned two knives, and thought $100 was a lot to spend on a knife. A little over a year later, I have a little display case of them, and carry a CRK Sebenza and a Ray Rogers custom daily. I've obviously experienced rapid price comfort level growth. Being here has that effect. I wonder what he'll be getting next Christmas!

Ahh, seldom am I jealous of a man I have never met, but this is one of those rare occasions. Heavy sigh.

Judy, I am going to second Nakano's choice of a Spyderco 3/4 size Jess Horn. I have one and it is a fantastic carry. Works good as a money clip as well. They have a stainless version that any jewelery store can personalize. Here is a pic and some info:

I hope your guy has some idea of what a great gal he has! We "Y-chromosome types" often attract better partners than we deserve, IMHO. To the point: Queen Cutlery Company offers some fine knives in your price range, esp. their Schatt & Morgan and Queen "Mini-Pearl" lines. A.G. Russell (www.agrussell.com) has a really nice selection of these knives. I think that you and your guy will both be pleased by these knive. They are beauties!
