C101XHP - Foliage Green Manix2 with CTS-XHP

Anyone had a off center blade on their manix 2?

Not off center, but I do have bad lateral play in one that I cant fix because of the pivot bushing. I'm not sold on this idea yet. I like to make adjustments just for this reason.

I got two Blues, two S90V's and two CTS-XHP's all with centered blades. I have to admit that out of six that's a pretty good record.

If I get more confirmation emails from stores, I'll post up ASAP. If you are still interested.

I was lucky enough to score a blue one, and wouldn't you know that the blade was actually rubbing the liner when closed. I sent it in to Golden, I hope I can get a new pivot bushing on it.

That is encouraging. So far, my experience has been the exception I guess.

I understand. Straight assembly of even a production folder is an expectation of mine. I can't emotionally handle a knife with a blade significantly off center when closed. I can live with a smidgeon. Perhaps that's unfair and a pipe dream but it is still my personal preference.

One reason I deal with Tom Berry is because he does personal inspections of the knives before he ships and won't ship a knife if it isn't good enough for him. The only risk I see in that since Tom is not in control of what he receives is the Sprint Run models. If they don't get to Tom in decent shape you may not get another one.

IMHO, the best consistent F&F coming from Spydercos are from Spyderco's best Taiwanese MFG. But I have to admit that all six Manix 2's and the FFG brown Endura 4 were all 100% acceptable or better and that list represents all three major Spyderco countries of MFG. The Manix 2's I received are right up there with the Bradley as far as F&F goes except for the ultra finished liner edges on the Bradley and stuff like that.

That is encouraging. So far, my experience has been the exception I guess.

Here's the latest report from Howard at KCI:

Well, we went through a ton of them. We can't be sure that we'll get any more or even fill the orders we have for them and so we took the item off the web - until and if we get another shipment. There's a limit to how many we want to oversell. So, we are not accepting orders for now.

i'm considering getting one of these for daily carry.. any1 use the new steel a lot to know how it stands up against s30v,zdp 189 , d2 etc? looks like an awesome knife but i want to know a little more about the steel

It's been stated that the steel will be very similar to stainless D2. Aside from that I do not know, but I'll report back when I get mine. Good luck in finding one, there are some floating on ebay - short of calling/emails online stores you can always get one on the Spyderco site, if they haven't sold out yet.

How much lighter are these then the original Manix2's.
The very first post of this thread has the expanded details, but it looks like it's about .75 ounces lighter. It's still a beefy knife, I'm not sure that .75 ounces makes or breaks anything as far as carry comfort.

i have it on very good authority that there is another batch ready, or near ready, and will be shipping this week.

Now that people have them any1 else have any input on the steel? i was looking for something that was better then s30v or d2. I know where to get one if i decide to grab one. the design looks perfect and a nice blade shape

Those steels, are excellent in their on respect maybe S90v is considered superior, but harder to sharpen.Thers nothing wrong with S30v,or D2 in my opinion. If you use a knife it'll eventually become dull no matter what steel it is,but some stay steels stay sharp longer.

i have knives in s30v and d2 just wanted something better to play around with

If anyone is looking for one of these, PM me. I have received one extra. First come, first get.

Hard to say if it's better. I doubt most people that own the knife have actually gone on a slicing marathon yet. I got mine today, and it looks great. I plan on using the knife occasionally, it's not office friendly in ym environment. People freak out when I pull out a Delica.

I'm sure the steel is top notch. I'm wondering how long it will take to get to the point where it will need a touch up. I followed the advice I was given and an occassional touch up is a good thing, keep em sharp.

I have a 2nd one coming in as well if anyone is interested, I only need 1 ;)

Collect the whole set!
I use one in S90v almost daily. Nice knife!
