Well, I just got mine. It's the same light gray G-10 of the Para 2 CTS sprint. It comes wrapped in anti-rusting paper, which makes me wonder how rust resistent is Super Blue. I don't know anything about the steel. Should I be concerned? Right now I'm keeping it in the box because I am a stainless steel guy and I don't know if I'm going to keep it. But the knife is gorgeous and I love it.

P.S.- No pics for now, but I'll try to get some later today or tomorrow.

Super blue rusts. That never bothered me much, but I have always found Super Blue to be brittle (it fractures instead of bends) which is the main reason I avoid it. But maybe I just got a bum knife.

I have one on order,It does just have a smidgen of chromium(.30-.50) so it probably is going to be pretty vulnerable to rust .I have lots of carbon steel knives and I live just a few minutes from your neck of the woods, and I really don't have too many problems, but I kind of like a little patina.

From what I've heard, Super Blue takes a very sharp edge and is easy to to touch up. That said, it can rust. I've seen a few posts about the Super Blue Mule that was released a while back and it seems like it can get a patina if you breath on it. That doesn't really bother me - I actually like a good patina. My only concern is whether a patina will prevent orange rust and pitting with regular use.

I have one coming and I don't regret pre-ordering it. I want to put it to good use and see if it's worth it to pick up a back up. If Sal really likes this steel (and he is the one who pushed the making of this model) then I don't see myself really being upset with it.

As soon as mine arrives, I will do as I normally do, with my high carbon blades.
Let the blade stand in vinegar for 30 min or so,to bring on a patina. This will be a nice change from the highly polished blade on my VG 10 Caly.

Sounds like a nice companion to the zdp Caly. Handles are a bit small for my taste or I'd be all over both those knives.

Nice pic.

Thanks for the pictures!

I am really excited about this knife for multiple reasons. I haven't owned a new Spyderco in a long time. Non-stainless steels are generally my favorite because of the added character they have with a patina -and you have to love the contrast the patina has with a nice shiny edge bevel!

And apparently, this super blue is some good stuff. To be honest, as long as it performs as well as 1095, I am going to be very satisfied. :p

I cant wait to get this one in my pocket.

I'll probably start it off cutting up some fruit, maybe let it sit uncleaned for about 5 minutes and see what happens.:D:thumbup:

Cool knife, non stainless is a joy to sharpen. As long as you wipe the blade with an oil or wd40 no worries.

Wish Spyderco could start a "basic line" with "softer steels" of their most popular models... very, very tired of the "steel arms race"

Do you mean the VG10 version that Super Blue sprint is a variant of? VG10 and S30V are pretty much the standard steels with some new ones starting to be produced. It's been that way for several years.

It's strange hearing this complaint as it's usually people asking for sprints with different steels like the Super blue Caly 3.5. There is also 440C, and BD1 if you want.....You know, I don't know what you want. Do you mean softer as in lower hardness, or lower alloy steels like aus6/12c27, etc. You might try BD1 if that's what you want. If it's just a standard line of knives most of the sprints have just that. A VG10 or S30V version that is standard.

Recall that by and large Spyderco has always been performance oriented. The standard line is all most of us need. We just like the chance at trying different steels and are fortunate Spyderco makes them available. I've waited over 12 years for a modern high performance folder in Super blue. Personally I couldn't be more grateful.

Im on the fence with this one as I have so many knives on pre order. If I lean anymore im gonna fall over that fence and get one.so close ,no funds ahhh. Haha

I've been looking around and most of the places I checked are carrying more pre orders than they will get knives. One even took it off the website it was causing so much calls and questions well after they stopped taking pre orders.

It's going to be difficult to get. It's one of only 3 knives I can afford this year and pre ordered and I sure hope I can see one. It's a tough year for me. Very tough in fact but I've waited too long for this one. Over a decade for a full sized blade, modern lockback with super blue. It's a grail knife for me and that's about the 3rd time I've ever used that term. One of the other 3 I found after 15 years of trying. The last one still hasn't been produced yet and may never.
