Camillus and Schrade of Old Given Short Shrift Now-A-Days

Do all Camillus and Schrade U.S.A. made knives have tang stamps indicating that? Can you easily identify a U.S. made Camillus and/or Schrade?

I have read that Camillus made some knives for Case, and it looks like they sometimes later made the exact same pattern, or very close to it, under the Camillus brand. It also looks like they used some of the same parts to make their Camillus branded knives, but in slightly different patterns.

I've just started collecting traditional knives and I'm beginning by focusing on all of the patterns made by Case in Yellow Delrin CV. It looks like I might be able to fill in some gaps with Camillus Yellow Delrin knives in patterns that Case didn't make, if there are such things...but U.S.A made only of course.

Camillus and Schrade made knives for many others. My only current Schrade is badged and stamped Craftsman.

Camillus made a ton of knives for other knife manufacturers. The way it often worked was that Camillus purchased the tooling for the knife pattern that the buyer (Case or Remington or whoever) required, and then produced for the knives for the buyer. But since Camillus owned the tooling, which was extremely expensive, Camillus was able to recoup some of the tooling costs by manufacturing and selling the same pattern under their own brand.

If the buyer purchased the tooling, this didn't happen.

Yes. The ones I have all have U.S.A. on their tang stamps. Something that would be helpful to you would be to look at the "Old Knives" thread among the first ten or so threads in this sub-forum and make a copy of the Camillus and Schrade tang stamp pages.
