Camillus and Schrade of Old Given Short Shrift Now-A-Days

This is for the user pile. A pretty decent 787. The "improved" muskrat.

From what I can tell, it's improved because it has two springs instead of one. I don't know but that's what I've noticed.

This is delrin and you can tell which blade was the original owners favorite. It's got dark stains and wiggles a bit. The other is perfect. Both blades got fresh edges this afternoon.

I was gonna go for the 77ot but this one had pretty full blades and I like the jigged delrin.

This is what I 'think' I know: Back in the 1940s CASE did a contract with the Hawbaker trappers' supply company for a muskrat with a wharncliffe blade as the secondary. Schrade CutCo competed with their own 'hawbaker' with that 'improved' etch. This etch survived for no other reason than marketing way up into at least the 1960s. It means nothing. I believe it was seen on both one and two spring versions. Meanwhile, Gotta love a muskrat!
Makes more sense than my theory! Thanks for the history!

At an antique store in Brevard, NC I asked about pocketknives, and they had recently gotten a Schrade Walden dealer display case, and put all the knives under a glass counter. Looks like they were from 1970 or so. I bought this 885UH stockman. I've recently sought some of these knives I remember carrying 50 years ago, and this one was a prime example.

Steve, real nice Cammies - both stand outs sporting their Go
that's for sure! Love them.

Wow- Old Timers to the max there Jim! Such great workhorses, its a shame as the Delrin Clothes they wear doesn't do the Knives the true justice they deserve as the fantastic Knives that they are!

I find this to be a unique and interesting knife, built in our bicentennial year of 1976 (dig the box!) Camillus Sword Brand #88 Lok-Rancher.
The sliding tab on the mark side locks the clip main when opened. I don't remember seeing another stockman like this. A big'n at 4¼" closed.
