Camp Knife Challenge Results!!!!!

Very cool write up. Awesome read for a friday night. Thanks Brian and to all the knifemakers that make such cool tools. Hats off to all you guys

This was an amazing effort by Brian and the makers involved and I must repeat an earlier post in that reading this review is much like curling up with a good book at the end of a long work week. Brian, you came up with some very cool tests and very reasonable and interesting methods for scoring each knife and all categories. Very interesting interpretations of what a camp knife should be from the makers with a lot of food for thought following the testing. I really like the idea of being able to tailor the results from all testing categories to a knife more suitable for the reader. Overall, I really like your test for sharpness and the measurements of the thicknesses where the edges meet the grinds at different points on each of the knives. It is very informative to individual performance once factoring in the overall design and thickness of the blades. Great feedback for the makers too given this info. I only wish you were able to do the other tests you had in mind. Man this was a lot of work. So when's the next one :D

Brian

It will be along time before anyone else is tempted to write a review - for fear of comparison with your awesome review!

Thankyou :D

I also note the courage of the makers that put their work/name on the line for our pleasure

Wow, great reviews, I'm totally spent just reading it. Now it's time to purchase! :)

I believe this should be stickied, or at least kept on the first page for all newcomers to read. This has to be one of, if not the best thread that I have ever read.

Thank you for doing the excellent review, Brian. And great job, makers. All of the knives in this test were outstanding. Very nice job.

AWESOME review! thank you Brian for that write up! thanks pitdog for starting it up! and thank you to all the makers who entered! a beautiful bunch of knives. best read ive had in a while!

Thanks a bunch Brian and all the makers that jumped in on this. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole thing. Very fun and interesting read. I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said.

Wow Brian! You sure put a lot of work and time into this! Thank you for taking this on!

Your review is great both text & photo's!

And Pitdog thanks for coming up with the idea!

I sat on the fence and finally on the last day of the deadline I signed up & went for it!

And a big Thanks to Darcy Ellis for getting me addicted to the cult of knife making.

Above and beyond Brian!! A good read and learned a lot also so thanks for the effort.

Man what a great review of some great steel. :D Hats off to you for accepting this challenge. And it really says something about the makers on this forum. They really do have the customer in mind when building these knives. To think of all the time they put in just to showcase their work.
And of course thank you Pit for this creation/experiment of a test. It turned out great.

Brian- nice job! Very entertaining reading. I've got a few thoughts on minor modifications.....

Great review. Great knives. I was really looking forward to the outcome of the tests, and it turned out even better than I had imagined. Thanks to Pitdog, Brian, and all of the makers for a really interesting challenge. It's very cool to see how different people approach the same kinds of tasks, both in design and use.

The most amazing thing to me, though, is that this challenge even took place... it really speaks to the confidence, ability, and spirit of WSS to see people come together like this. Outstanding job to all those involved!

Thank you Brian! I can see where you put a lot of time and effort into doing all of this, and it`s greatly appreciated! Thanks also to pitdog for putting this together. I`ve never seen a review done this proffessionaly, and with such detail.

Well......that didn't take long.

Each photo is between 100k and 140k and I checked this morning and photobucket was at 9.5 Gb of transfer out of an allowed 10Gb! That's crazy! I went ahead an upgraded so there is no bandwidth limit, but I am curious to see if they will cut me off for being excessive :D

I am glad that you all are enjoying the thread.

In the beginning I knew I wanted to put in enough effort to justify the effort the makers put into making the knives. I never realized that I would put in enough hours to make myself 2 or even 3 knives! :) Just one of those things I guess.

One of my thoughts after seeing some of the comments, is that there was a whole lot of "lack of hype" in this review. Just normal stuff, and let the knives do it. I hope you guys see through a lot of hype done in marketing and know that because I didn't hype any of these up way out of proportion that it doesn't make them less exciting.

These are all truly good knives and will stand up to lots and lots of use. I would trust them more than production style knives with a big marketing budget.

To the makers, I hope my style does not bother you. I just tried to be honest. In hearing it with respect to a product you put time in on, hearing "non positive" things can be disappointing at first. I never meant to hurt any feelings or anything like that. If you believe my comments to be not true, or me full of crap, I am fine with that. If my comments give you something to ponder, then I am glad I did my review this way.

I just don't want to come off the wrong way to you guys. You did an impressive job.

Man, Im glad I could not sleep this morning. This was like watching the super bowl.

Brian you are the MAN! That was, hands down, the best knife review I have ever read. That could be a feature in a magazine for sure. Thank you SOO much for your time and effort.

And thanks to the other makers for letting me participate. I've learned a TON about what makes a good knife, and hopefully I can incorporate some of the stand-out's traits into my future knives.

I gotta print this off so my family can read it! :D:D

Brian - Great job... Hats off to all the makers, I'd love to have any or all of those great blades!

Excellent review Brian. I know how much time and work is involved in doing a long review, but you went over the top with this one! I don't think I'd have the patience to do a review this long. Great job!
