Camp Knife Challenge Results!!!!!

Thank You Brian. I think we all recognize that some areas of use are VERY subjective and you did a great job of describing the differences among these great submissions. Some of us are a long way from actually getting to handle different custom makers output. Production models are relatively easy to compair but lack "soul". Kudo's to the "new guys" entries as well as the regular makers that I love to drool over. I know that this review took a big effort on your part and just wanted to let you know that it is muchly appriciated. Like most, my purchaces have been curtailed as of late- I am now more than ever headed towards one of these ( and other non-camp) custom made beauties over the alternates for the new aquisitions.

Brian you are the MAN! That was, hands down, the best knife review I have ever read. That could be a feature in a magazine for sure.

The best....this should be submitted to magazines!

Can anyone make a summary table for those of us with a short attention span.

Congrats to all the knife makers! You all made some great looking knives. Also, a huge thanks to Brian for his hard work, you did an outstanding job. Man I love this forum!

This is the most detailed knife comparison review I have ever read (well almost, I still have to go back and read some of it). Brian did an outstanding job and really gave me a feel for the quality of these knives. I am just a hack and use mostly manufactured off the shelf knives and then have to regrind most of them just to make them cut (except for Barkies). Now I am really looking to get one of these fine customs. Thanks for the hard work, Brian. I am embarrassed to even call my comparisons valid after seeing this work. Outstanding!:thumbup::thumbup:

Brian- you did a fantastic job. If I was going to do a "thesis defense" I'do have two main comment areas, possibly 3.

One opinion question: do you think light filework on the dropped edge would have made you feel better with a reverse grip? I've been debating that on several knives for a while.....

emphasis- Brian, you did a fantastic job.

Thanks for all the effort, time and expense. Now to find a second job to pay for one of those knives. OK, maybe two.

I have been here on BF, and the other knife-related forums, for a decade already and I must say I have never seen an undertaking so significant, it borders on historic! The Great BF W&SS KNIFE CHALLENGE OF '09!

Hats off to Brian for all his efforts as well as his even-handed tone throughout the testing. To all the makers as well who stood-up and took the challenge!

I really really want to do a heavy chopper and a small knife challenge now. Topping Brian's work will be hard for anyone, though

This thread is going to achieve cult status. I have no doubt. The makers are going to benefit from such great exposure for a really long time.

Brian, I hope you post this up on your Backyard Bushman's Blog as well so the article maintains a permanent profile as an easily accessed link. Hopefully, in 2019 (if the SHTF hasn't come yet - yuk, yuk, yuk), somebody will resurrect this thread to show a new generation how it could be done.

And maybe a little thanks to me for coming up with it eh ?:(

I'm up for a chopper and small knife challenge too! Chopping was my knife's weakness in this review and I want to try and do better:o. A smaller knife is what I'd actually take camping or backpacking. That's another great thing about this challenge; it makes us knifemakers want to get better. We learn where we need to improve. Overall, I know it will raise the the already high quality of the knives we make. Competition does that. Look how athletes get better and better. We learn!

I think whoever does the next review will do a great job. I don't know if they will top this but they are certainly not expected to. This was just above and beyond what we were expecting.

This was a great thing and I hope we do many more!
