Camper The Traveling Muk (aka: Pass The Muk)

I took Camper to the Louisville Zoo the other day. I'd never been before as an adult, I think I was about 4-5 when I went last. I got pictures of the knife where I could, and the lanyard where it was either more convenient or where there was a large number of people that I didn't wan't to alarm.

Here we are fixing to enter the madhouse they were calling a zoo.

I've been using him off and on during my normal bass fishing, which happens between 2 to 5 times a week. Older pics before the latest mods.

It's no secret I love firearms. Here's Camper with my Winchester 1892 Takedown Deluxe in 44 Magnum, a gift from a friend, and just a little part of God's blessing on me. If you serve God with your whole heart, He'll withhold no good thing from you!

We went to the zoo on Saturday, well Sunday afternoon me and the boy decided to go fishing. I got all my stuff including Camper and the boy out to the car and we took off.

First stop, Walmart to return the boy's new rod which had broken.

Then, the local heavily pressured city lake. It's not the best fishing spot because of all the pressure, but it does have some decent fish in there when you can coax them. It's a convenient spot as it's right in the center of town.

When I got there I couldn't find Camper so I fished anyway and caught this nice little bass.

We fished about 2 hours, then went back to Walmart for some groceries before heading back home. We had a good rain and storm that night.

The next day, the boy caught this awesome little toad, and I couldn't find Camper for pictures.

So I ended up turning the car inside out, then the house in the normal knife-laying spots... I stopped and said a prayer. When I went back outside, my eyes immediately went to the top of the car to where Camper lay! He had ridden 20 miles to town, didn't get nabbed at Walmart, nor the lake parking lot, nor Walmart again, and then rode another 20 miles back home - a miracle that he was still there, especially considering that he wasn't wedged up under the crossbar.

If that wasn't enough, he bore the full force of a thunderstorm and downpour, which really got the patina started!

During our fishing expedition Monday, the boy's exchanged rod, with the cheap line that's provided on it didn't do so well. Tuesday before we went fishing again, I put some new line on, using some of the old mono as a backer.

Uni-to-Uni knot is an easy way to tie two lines together for either using a backer or for attaching a leader.

On our way going fishing Tuesday, the boy wanted to stop by the caboose. It's an old caboose that a local bank has as a lawn decoration. It's intact mostly and well preserved, and save for some plywood covers over the wheels to hold on Christmas lights, it's pretty much as it was 120 years ago. I like it as much as he does, and we stop and check it out every week or two.

On the way over to it, I somehow ended up fumbling Camper and he slid part way out of the sheath and bit me.

After a few pictures, we mosied back to the car and I dug out a bandaid and patched myself up. This bandaid is actually one I found in Academy's parking lot and picked up. I don't normally keep bandaids in the car (I know I should), and when I grabbed this one I told the boy, we might need this one day, so it was a good lesson for him.

I didn't get any on the above topwater... but I did get one with a Zoom lizard drug across the top, but I wasn't able to land it. I did get this guy though subsurface.

I don't get a lot of fish on flukes or paddle tails, so I'm practicing with them.

Then we had to go, and we had a great time at bible study. We're studying in Revelation and was reminded we need to be watching and stay ready for Jesus' coming!

Me and the boy slipped away to a local pond yesterday evening. It was completely moss covered except for a few spots of open water just at the edge of casting distance and a few small holes hither and thither in the middle of the muck. I was able to connect with this little guy on a weedless and weightless Zoom Magnum Lizard.

Rigged up a weighted Texas rig to get more distance, but the bass didn't want any more.

I went down to the Nolin River to fish the other day and took Camper along for the change in scenery. It wasn't long and I caught a nice largemouth, followed by a few of his brethren.

There is some other fossils, but at this point I realized I didn't have my car keys in my pocket. My heart sank as I distinctly remember having locked the van. I looked a bit on the rocks I was standing on, and my mind was becoming frantic. I stopped and said a prayer, asking for God's intervention. Me and my 4 year old climbed back up from the river to where we were parked. I could see the keys in the ignition... all the doors were locked, except for the driver's side door. We got down on our knees and thanked God for his intervention. Nothing was missing from the car, we loaded up, and came back home.
