Camping

Great post Jeff.

it would be interesting to see what you would use if the Eureka bivy wasn't available.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice pics. Couple of questions if you don't mind.

1. I see you're a fellow peat head. What's your favorite dram?
2. What kinda back pack do you have there?

Decided to try out this new Eureka bivy last night so I hiked about 5 kliks into the woods and set up camp. Used the Sven saw and the Junglas to gather firewood and never batoned the first thing. Go figure. Of course, rich pine makes it easy down here. You can move to arm sized firewood really quick. To be honest I really didn't need the Junglas or the Sven saw to build a fire. Could have done it all with just a folder and dead wood, but I needed something to occupy my time in between sips of Scotch.

I'm heading over to exchange to sell all my knives cause you stuck that poor junglas in the ground!

Just kidding. Nice pics, I wish I could go camping this time of year.

# 1: I don't have the first clue what language your are speaking???????

# 2: Junglas Pack

Did you find it claustrophobic at all? A good buddy of mine has camped in one of those for a couple of years now and he gets terrible bouts of claustrophobia. He gets really vivid drams about getting attacked while sleeping. We just ignore him now for the most part. But at first it was rough.Waking up at 3am to the sound of one of your buddies screaming his head off is a little unnerving.
He's currently looking for a new means of shelter.

He's asking what Scotch you prefer...

I for one am a big fan of the Speysides (Glenlivet, Glenrothes), and single malt or nothing. I'd rather a Bourbon than a blended Scotch (although I've never had the Johnny Walker Blue, it may change my mind). Sorry to hijack the thread, but I respect everyone here's knife & gear recommendations, and would love some whisky thoughts as well. Besides, I imagine most of us consider good firewater to be an essential part of our camping/survival kit. ;) Not just surviving, but thriving, right?

Sounds like your buddy needs more than a new shelter. Maybe a woopie and a night light. :D

LOL! Sorry! You mentioned sipping Scotch. The characteristic smoky flavor in Scotch comes from the peat used in the fires to dry the barley.

A dram is a measure of Scotch. Like a serving. Basically, I was giving you a thumbs up for being a fellow Scotch drinker and asking what your favorite Scotch is. :D

Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, ok. I'm a dumbass when it comes to knowing the right lingo for all these society things. I just like single malt scoth. Glenlivet is my favorite.

That's why I stick with beer.

I don't have to learn a new language. :D

I think I'm gonna switch back if drinking Scotch means I have to wear a kilt and learn to speak "scotch"

I'm not sure I'd go camping with this guy. Send him to a sleep clinic. I saw one of our participants one time take his pocket knife and rip his tent in two from the inside because a spider was in there with him (this was in the jungle. The spider was big). The zipper somehow jammed and he decided he was coming out of that damn tent. He did. Of course we were all laughing our asses off at his screaming and refusing to help. It was a great show.

What kinda boots ya got there, El Jefe? I'm getting ready to shop for some Rocky's or Danners.

What's your LPC's there? (Leather Personnel Carriers)

Moose

I've been looking around at bivies, but I am worried about using a down bag in one if it would happen to rain on me. Nothing like waking up to being soaked.

Jeff you guys have to get the Junglas pack into production soon! It looks so functional and not to mention really bad@$$ :) USA made or not I would love to see that in the lineup soon
