Camping

Ohhhh. Now we got a new acronym: LPC's. Love it.

These are just some cheaper Timberlines I bought at Academy outdoors. And if you were a real operator you would have asked the question like this: "What kinda boots you runnin' there, El Jefe" You just failed Operator 101 and will have to take the class over!
Hell we were calling 'em LPC's back in the 70's when I was in the Infantry... We had our APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and when we were humpin' and gruntin' we had our LPC's (Leather Personnel Carriers)... The APC was much easier on our feet but not on our kidneys...

All you military guys have way too many acronyms for me to keep up with.

jeff, if you can, look into kifaru packs. i have yet to see any complaints on their packs and widely regarded as the best packs money can buy. i'm ditching my falcon ii due to the lack of a good waist strap. with just 27 lbs, the straps really start digging into my shoulders after a few miles and i end up having shoulder and neck pains the next day. after trying a true hiking pack, i'm convinced a pack that puts most of the weight on my hips is worth it's weight in gold...i ordered a kifaru zxr and will do a review after i've used it for awhile but i'd love to see an esee pack that competes with them.

they are also 100% made in the usa - berry amendment compliant.

+1 for Kifaru, but that Junglas pack looks pretty damn nice.

I keep my Eureka Solitaire handy for quick overnighters, and it really does pack up super small. I had aluminum poles made for it, and I have been very happy with it.

OAN, I just picked up an Eberlestock HalfTrack because of all of the great recommendations from members on this and the WSS forum. This is a great pack for taller hikers and is priced right. I highly recommend it for a 2-3 day trek, or for those of us who carry way too much stuff. It's nice to have longer padding on the shoulder straps.

I've messed with the Kifaru stuff and also the ESEE pack.

Gotta say, the ESEE is heavier duty. I know that alot of folks will disagree but it's the truth.

maxpedition packs are also heavy duty (anyone can just buy thicker materials) but it's kifaru's suspension system/ergonomics that separates them from the pack from what i hear. i honestly want to see jeff make a side by side comparo since i know he doesn't bs anyone  i'll happily jump ship if the u.s. made junglas laserna does indeed turn out to be a better designed pack. heck, i can do a review, send me a junglas laserna and i'll return it after...junglas laserna pass-around perhaps?

edit: i hope jeff doesn't take my comments the wrong way. i'm merely suggesting features on other proven pack designs that i'd like to see on the next generation esee backpack.

I've tried a lot of different packs. I've narrowed it down to three packs now that I use, and the rest have all been sold off. My favorite pack I use exclusively for backcountry hunting. It's the Everlestock Gunslinger II. The strap and suspension system just fits my build and it extremely comfortable. I also love the fact that I have a place for my rifle as we tend to hunt deep and hauling loads out can be an all day event. I don't use it for backpacking or for a day pack but it does serve a purpose for me. I don't think there is such a thing as a best pack. Everyone is built differently and finding the pack that fits your needs and your build can be an expensive and time consuming event.

I don't think many get their monies worth out of product these days. I know I didn't. I was an admitted gear whore. I was also making a substantial income that allowed me that luxury. Being in real-estate development and watching my career and everything else go away during this downturn, I know I learned one thing about gear. When I find something that works for me, they're going to have to turn to threads before I ditch it for the next "best" product.

there is no trail where im going so i dont care about the awesomeness of the suspension, or having 50 straps all around.. i need a strong pack that will take hits, branchs, rocks and get to the destination intact while holding my gear.

So the junglas pack or maxpedition pack are perfect for ME for MY needs.. you cant make a pack to satisfy 100% of the customers but this one is exactly what im looking for as it is.

Rockin an Inova x5? My bro got me that light a while back and its really pretty nice! it holds up impressively. And its durable

Fantastic post. Eureka tents are made a couple miles from my house. I've been in the store tons of times. Great stuff. Making military tents is what put them on the map. They survived a wopper of a flood in 2006 and managed to come back to life. Glad for it.

When the weather gets better, I want to go out and play.

Got the same tent ! did one week in the desert last time, it worked tretty good ! kept me hot at night, protected from sandstorms (pretty well) and for the oven morning wakeup heat, it was easy to get some air inside .. i like it :D
thx for sharing jeff :)

I've only got a couple of nights on mine but found you have to pitch it pretty loose so you have more room to step in through the zipper top. Actually there is a lot of room in this thing for a bivy. I think I could fit a small crazy woman in there with me.

You could get a crazy little woman in there with you, but would there be room to throw each other around? I mean, if you want to have a crazy little woman, there should be room to throw each other around or what's the point? :D

Can you post a picture of that thing stowed next to a MaxPed Pgymy Falcon II for those of us that are familiar with that size item?

I looked them up, $80.00 and that's not bad.
