Camping

What kinda boots ya got there, El Jefe? I'm getting ready to shop for some Rocky's or Danners.

What's your LPC's there? (Leather Personnel Carriers)

Moose

Ohhhh. Now we got a new acronym: LPC's. Love it.

These are just some cheaper Timberlines I bought at Academy outdoors. And if you were a real operator you would have asked the question like this: "What kinda boots you runnin' there, El Jefe" You just failed Operator 101 and will have to take the class over!

I'm not sure I'd go camping with this guy. Send him to a sleep clinic. I saw one of our participants one time take his pocket knife and rip his tent in two from the inside because a spider was in there with him (this was in the jungle. The spider was big). The zipper somehow jammed and he decided he was coming out of that damn tent. He did. Of course we were all laughing our asses off at his screaming and refusing to help. It was a great show.

Video next time this does happen! :p

Jeff you guys have to get the Junglas pack into production soon! It looks so functional and not to mention really bad@$$ :) USA made or not I would love to see that in the lineup soon

Working on it. I've got about 50 kilometers on this one right now and still doing some minor tweaks. Got another guy with over 150 kilometers on his and he's offered up some smart tweaks. We just want to be right when we go into production. This will not be a cheap backpack to produce but it will be one tough piece of gear for the hard use type of person.

That's what happens when you bring cheap shit to a hard place. It fails. This was one of those "Congo" movie pop up tents. We've seen this time and time again with people bringing gear like this. The main reason we take our time on coming out with new products is we literally test and beat them to failure first. I think it's a damn shame that most gear (and a lot of knives) are designed by people sitting behind a computer without really putting it in the field.

Am I the only person that really liked the way MRE s tasted. You wouldn't shit for a week but they tasted good to me,miss them.

There are some good ones out there for sure. I have no problem with them for camp food.

The bivy can have several variations. I have one that is a Gore-Tex sleeping bag cover. It has two delrin poles to keep the fabric off your face. It's small, lightweight, waterproof bottom fabric. The bad thing is, laying down position only. It's more of a climbers/alpine bivy. Maybe not so good in the rainy jungles or buggy swamps.
I returned the Solitare and got my current bivy, I was in NM at the time. I'd rather have the Solitare in more tropical environments.

Will the Junglas pack have a padded waist belt or strap? I would think that 35 lbs on my shoulder straps would be a drag after a while.

It does have a padded waist strap now. I usually run it pretty losse though because the pack fits so good it doesn't really seem to be needed.

since youre touching near the subject of pads on packs....have you ever thought of being able to remove the padding and add your own (or keep the supplid closed cell foam padding)? socks, undies could be stored...or anything else

Did you find it claustrophobic at all? A good buddy of mine has camped in one of those for a couple of years now and he gets terrible bouts of claustrophobia. He gets really vivid drams about getting attacked while sleeping. We just ignore him now for the most part. But at first it was rough.Waking up at 3am to the sound of one of your buddies screaming his head off is a little unnerving.
He's currently looking for a new means of shelter.

That sounds like a episode I had once. Myself and 3 of my buddies went hiking in the North GA mountains in FEB. 2009 and ended up taking a short cut in order to avoid crossing Jack's River. Well after bushwacking along side the river, we ended up coming to spot that would require us going straight up, and it was getting late. We ended up crossing the River twice in chest deep water before setting up camp. Although I had a tent, I just laid out my tarp, and sleeping bag. Well the sleeping bag I had wasn't warm enough so I broke out my emergency blanket and ended up wrapping myself up like a burrito before the night was over. It was then that I started yelling in my sleep for my buddy Heath, because I thought that a bear had me. :o

I remember doing it as I wasn't fully asleep, but I didn't say anything that morning hoping that no one heard me, but it wasn't long before the ribbing began. What's so funny was I had told Heath before we all called it a night, that if I started yelling to come out shooting. I'm just glad he is a responsible gun owner. :D

Just got back from camping in the snow (rain and snow mixed, actually) and I was very grateful for my zero degree bag.

How cold was it at night, did you find that the Jungle Bag was enough?

It got down to 48 degrees last night. Hard winter time!

Right now it's 74 degrees outside, so a little cool but better.

Oh jeez, I gotta move.

I love Utah, but this desert weather can be a pain. I miss the Northwest... fall all year long!

We just got back from the national forest. Just a one nighter to make sure all our gear is in working order after the winter in storage. Rather have it break close to home and on a one nighter than when were a few hundred miles away and the first night into a week long trip.

The kids and I got chased by a chupcabra in the deep woods. (at least they think we did, have to make it exciting for the kiddies. Have to do the same stuff when Tony comes along. :D).
