Camping

How do you carry this little devil, inside or outside of your backpack?

Mine is inside my Junglas pack in the main compartment, along with a Snugpak jungle bag, thermarest pillow and a sil tarp.

Great post Jeff! I've been looking at getting a new bivy for a while and haven't been able to come up with a winner yet. It always seems you have to give up something in order for another with them. I'll have to give that one a look.

I think I'm gonna switch back if drinking Scotch means I have to wear a kilt and learn to speak "scotch"

Don't switch, just add it to the menu. :D And not to rag on but "Scotch" is the international designation for whiskey that comes from the Old Country, the language is "Gaelic" and the people are "Scots" or "Scottish" when referred to as the whole. In Scotland you'll get looked at like you have 2 heads if you ask for Scotch - there it is simply "whiskey"...;)

The word whiskey actually comes from the Gaelic "uisgha beatha" (pronounced "weesh-ga bay-ha" which means water of life. don't you feel smarter now???

If you're only going to drink one single malt then Glenlivet is really hard to beat - but if you like that one there are others that you'll love!!!

I have that same tent, and it works well. Only problem I have with it is that my advanced age, it is a BITCH to get in and out of.

Pitch it with your head downhill. Lay a tarp inside. Grease yourself with Crisco before bed. When you need out, unzip the door, you'll slide right out. :D

roping is a good skill to learn, Ive done a few trips where the route I chose deliberatly had rock faces and obstacles that required us to abseil or rapell down certain parts. It takes a bit of skill to do it safely with a pack on. I like itbecause it adds a bit of an adrenilin hit to a hiking trip.

I like that bivvy mate, it looks pretty good. I think this is my first post in the esee forum, Im loving my esee 4 and izula, good bit of kit for the cash.

Nice thread Jeff!
"Packsize (Fully Compressed): 12x14cm "
Impossible!
I ordered a Snugpak Travelpak Lite. Same Packed dimensions.
My current Nomad is about 30*30cm, 1100gr packed and want to try something light and small(and cheap for only 36 euro's!). Good thing Jeff mentioned it in his post :)
Hoping i get it in before the weekend.

Rockin an Inova x5? My bro got me that light a while back and its really pretty nice! it holds up impressively. And its durable

+1 on the Inova X5. It's a great light might not be as bright as a surefire but they are damn near indestructible and have an amazing battery life. I always take mine with me when in the out of doors.

Agreed.

Also another +1 on the Thermarest pillows they are great.

i used to be a Scotch drinker. Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Balvenie, Dalmore were favorites.

Then I discovered good bourbon: 1792, Buffalo Trace, and Evan Williams Single Barrel (yes, Evan Williams). If those don't make you think twice about Scotch, then you are not a Scotch drinker, you're a Scotch cultist. :D

And yes, I know those aren't even the best. Just easily affordable.

I drink Glenmorangie in Orange Crush. I call it Scrotch. :D

Actually, I don't drink much at all anymore although I have a date with a bottle of Lucid Absinthe next weekend if I can shake this flu or whatever the hell it is I have been battling for a couple weeks now.

If I do drink, I generally drink great Vodka. The Goose and Ketel One. If I want some oily Russian Vodka, Stolichniya. :)

Don do yourself a favor sometime and try Luksusowa Vodka. It's a Polish potato vodka and in my opinion prob one of the best. Its clean and smooth and you can damn near buy tow bottles of it for the price of one bottle of Kettle or Goose.

Ever have Stalingrad? There's only one liqour store I go to that has it and they changed hands recently...I should go back and see if they still carry it. It's "economical"...and made in Pennsylvania!

HEY DON!
I was up your way yesterday, and of I had had brain one in my head, I would have contacted you ahead of time. As it was, I didn't think about it until my wife and I were leaving Mercy about 1100, and I figured that would be kinda short notice. PLUS, it sounds like maybe you wouldn't want to be hanging out down by the Inner Harbor if you're battling the flu. Hope you feel better soon, man. Also, wanted to find out if you had any new news on what we were talking about earlier.

I have some kinda bastardized Absinthe in the cabinet here. It's about 3 years opened now. Never really worked for me. But it isn't the real stuff, either, I don't think.

Vodka is OK, but it tends to make me... ornery. Or it used to. Maybe not so much anymore.

Scrotch.... I like that, man. I've been using some orange crush with that new vodka that has whipped-cream flavoring added. Tastes like a friggin' orange creamsicle like I had as a kid..... with a bit o' kick.

I think I'm gonna have to go have some Buffalo Trace now....

OK, sorry for the hijack... back to your regularly scheduled thread.....
