Normally, that would not be a problem, but I'm going to be gone for several days, and the ESEE will start rusting before I even take it out of the sheath on the first day while hiking. I won't have much time for knife maintenance on the trip either. By the time I get back, it would be a mess. The TGLB is a great knife. But serious question, why not jus maintain the ESEE5 you have ? It’s not going to rust to dust or break etc. A ziplock baggy with a mineral oil soaked cloth and an occasional wipe and you would be good to go. I love knives and need little excuse for another of course.
That would take care of the tactical knife.I can't vouch for it but I've seen it advertised for years: The SOG Seal Pup. (or the larger non-pup)
On the coast, salt water, and getting wet... yeah, that's my assessment.OK if that’s your assessment of the environment.
I think I'm going with the Cold Steel SRK in San Mai steel and the Sog Seal Pup. Thanks for everyone's advice!Believe Cold Steel's San Mai uses 420J2 for the outer layers, and at the time the SRK was offered in it, the core was either VG-1 (previous Japan version) or VG-10 (newer Taiwan version). So most of the blade should be more corrosion resistant than AUS8, but the edge would probably be about the same.
Very close, humid, and wet. No, I don't plan on submerging the knife in saltwater. So in saltwater submerged or near ? I am just trying to understand is all.
A You Tuber reviewed it a while back as a bushcraft and outdoor survival knife and it did well. Surprisingly well, at least to me. Batoning, feather sticks, all that stuff. I think the one knife might do all the things OP is after. But like I said I haven't used it, just remember when it first came out and remember that review.hat would take care of the tactical knife.
Keep in mind SOG is now also just a name brand owned by GSM, the company that bought out Cold Steel. Things just aren't what they used to be....I think I'm going with the Cold Steel SRK in San Mai steel and the Sog Seal Pup. Thanks for everyone's advice!
Any idea if the manufacturing changed? It's possible the factory is still in place, could even be the same workers.Keep in mind SOG is now also just a name brand owned by GSM, the company that bought out Cold Steel. Things just aren't what they used to be....
Even if it is the same factory and same employees, the quality has gone downhill as well as customer service. There are past discussions if you want to search them out....Any idea if the manufacturing changed? It's possible the factory is still in place, could even be the same workers.
I like that a lot, but times are tough these days, so I'll have to put it off for hopefully better times ahead. Thanks! Here you go:
