Can a man or a woman choose a folding knife and keep that same knife in their pocket for over two years? That is the question! Who has done it and name that knife.
Lycosa

Long, lomg ago, in another life, I did that. IU was a student and couldn't afford much, so I bought a Buck 112 and carried that all over WV hiking and camping for several years. Still keep one in the collection for old times' sake.

Then I carried a small CS lockback for 8 or 9 years. It was one of their early models with a laminated blade, dual liners, and kraton molded scales. I still have that one, too. One of the scales came unglued from the liner and I've had to reattach it, but I still have that one, too.

Lately, though, there have just been too many models that I'm interested in for me to carry the same thing for two years. I guess the closest I could come to that would be the Delica series that I use as a work EDC. I started out with a CF lefty D3. When the D4s came out, I switched to one of the VG10 models. When the ZDP D4s came out, I got a couple of those. It hasn't been the same knife, but it's been the same model for a couple of years now.

For personal EDC, I've carried an H&K 14210 for a couple of months and I don't see anything on the horizon that's going to replace it, but who knows what's waitin' out there?

I have carried a Leatherman wave for about 4 years. Most good knives will give you at least 2 years of hard service.

My SOG Flash II. I carried it with me every day for 3 years until we went on a trip and lost it in our luggage.

I bought a SOG Twitch XL to replace it, carried it for a year, but then found my FLash II . . .
I now trade off between those two.

My father has carried a Kershaw DWO in his pocket since I can remember, the same one, I dont know when it came out but I know he says he bought it when they released it. I have bought him other kershaws that he carries with it, but he's never without it. My grandfather has an old queen trapper and an old stockman that he's carried since my dad can remember. I carry an old stockman that was carried by my dad and his dad and his dad. I dont edc it anymore but I carried it since I was a little sprat. I have had a spyderco mili in my pocket everyday for 2 years now. The only problem is with so many knives its hard to have that ONE knife.

Swiss Army Knife Ranger. I don't need or want any other folders. Fixed blades, however, are a different thing entirely.

I've doe it a couple of times in my life.
1. Victorinox tinker for at least 2 years
2. spyderco endura 3 for about 3 years.
and come to think about it a buck 110 on my belt for at least 3 years
of course in all the above they were occasionally in addition to another knife. Unfortunately with the advent of the internet and BF in particular i don't think it will happen again. ahgar

Are you asking if a knife will last at least two years, or are you asking if a person can carry the same knife for at least two years without choosing another for some reason or the other?

Without a doubt, any quality knife that is handled properly and used with a little common sense should last years and years...more likely to be lost before it's "used up". Now, throw in abuse and misuse and you skew the scale greatly. For instance, a nice truck might go a good 250k miles if cared for properly...don't change the oil and keep on driving it till it stops and I doubt that you'll reach that same 250k mark. That's true for anything. As far as actually carrying the same knife for 2 or more years without changing it out..well, if you are here then you are probably a knife knut and probably have more knives than you could possibly ever use up in a single lifetime already!

i carried my old spyderco Police for 14 yrs still carring my buck 110 for 15 yrs . my little shrade trapper for 20 yrs . i own many more but these just have always fit the bill on what i need .

My first knife,a traditional boy scout knife I carried for a few years. I could get that thing razor sharp on a cheap pocket stone. I think the knife i carried the longest would be my Vic huntsman carried everyday from the time I was 13 until I turned 19. That was back when carrying a pocket knife in school was common place. I replaced that with a larger locking SAK, carried for almost a year. Replaced that with an ez out gerber and have since been switching and changing knives about every 6 months. I keep telling myself(and the wife) that this is going to be the last knife I will ever own, but here I am with 40+ knives and going strong. I guess the knife I will carry the longest is the one they bury me with.

Here are the knives I carried daily, exclusively, for an extend number of years:
Victorinox Classic
Leatherman Micra
Leatherman Juice S2
Some type of Victorinox two blade that I forgot the name of
Buck 110

I also keep wives and jobs for an extended period of time.

My Benchmade 350 still answers the call whenever I ask it to ride along, and it was my EDC for what I believe to be 5 or 6 years.

If you have a quality knife and don't let it get too terribly messed up there are many knives our there that you will be able to hand on to another generation.

For that matter my dad carries a three bladed contraption of unknown origin, that I estimate to have been his companion for at least ten years now. I'll ask him when I get a chance for more info on his knife.

I switch my knives around far too often, but I've been carrying the same multitool for a while. First I carried a SwissTool for a couple of years, and since it came out I've been carrying a SwissTool Spirit with the ratchet and extra bits.

I've been carrying an itty-bitty Swiss Army Knife attached to my key chain for about 5 years. The one small blade is nice but the little scissors are indispensable. From cutting fishing line to a torn fingernail, those little scissors always come in handy.

I carried a BM 705 ats-34 for about 3 years, then a mini grip for almost 4 years..... The funny thing is there really wasn't any need to change either of those other than to have something different.

There have been a number of knives over the years that have made their home in my pocket for years at a time. I usually carry every new knife for at least a month before deciding whether I like it or not. The BM 640 Mini-Spike actually lasted about eight years before being retired from carry.

I carried a Buck 110 for ten years or so. Also carried a Case stockman for almost as long.

I'm with dalefuller, there are just too many choices out there! We are truly living in the Golden Age of cutlery. IF I had to limit myself to just one folder over the next two years, I just don't think I could do it. With all the new choices that are here and are coming out over the next few months it just boggles the mind at times. So, until legally, financially, or whatever reason, I'll still change out my edc every week or every month, or heck, maybe every day!:D:D
