Can someone tell me more about the ZT0777M390?

I do understand their standpoint, they don't want to announce it till they are sure of everything... rumors are bad because then they may get questions from all ends on something that is not true many times over. So they want to be sure of everything before they announce... But I think talk is good to some extent, it keeps us all on the edge of our seats and excited to see what happens.

Can't wait to get my hands on the ZT0777m390 !!!!!!!

There'll be enough to go around so no need for a mad rush like with the 0560CBCF which is now quite available at reasonable prices. Late scalpers are not too happy! :D

I disagree. They are only replacing the existing orders from what I was told. And the last time I check, all were already spoken for. And I think one good solid blade would be fine. The design of the knife is beyond awesome so we will see.

No denying or arguing about the awesomeness of the 0777-M390 with a single-steel blade!

It's just that it has been such a long time since people placed their preorders with or without a deposit, payment changes in the meantime, interest for the single steel blade versus a composite (a biggie), individual's wallet when they get the call, how many of the M390 version will be produced (hoping for a high number so that there's enough to go around) and so forth...

I had 4 on preorder and am now only getting one. So I do think that there will be plenty to go around.

One of each is all I want as well.

As an aside, regarding the heated rhetoric used in some of these threads I'd like to quote from a long 10-hour miniseries I'm watching called "Titanic: Blood & Steel". It starts in the shipyards of Belfast at the start of the shipbuilding in 1909 and there were a lot of labor-management disputes. One of the managers did not object to the workers becoming union members and he told the union organizer:

I welcome dialog, as long as it remains cordial, constructive and is conducted in a civilized manner.

Hear, hear and well said. I think it's perfectly applicable here as well a century later.

Well history does repeat itself after all. All comes down to what you do the second time that counts.;)

Think it through, you have a 777. What knife even comes close to this knife? NOTHING!!!
There is not one production knife that is even close. I know you know what M390 is, that's a sweet steel. Don't make the same mistake twice. I'm sure if you haven't already you will get emails and PMs asking for the spots for those per-order spots...

Even ZT will have a choice of another great folder with the M390 steel: ZT 0801CF. The 0801CF and 0777M390 will compete against each other to some extent. However, the MAP-MSRP for the 0801CF is $272-$340 whereas for the 0777M390 it looks to be $360-$450.

In October 2013 we should see the ZT 0350M390 exclusively from an online dealer for a MAP-MSRP of $180-$225.

Sorry if I bother, I'm writing from Italy and this news of the 0777 is not clear to me.
I've preordered my 0777 paying it in full, but ZT has given-up because they are not able to produce it? So no more 0777 composite blade but only a 0777 with plain steel? And that's it?
A 0777 without composite steel it's antoher knife.
Ordered a red Ferrari and received a red Alfa Romeo?

You should contact your dealer to get a full (or partial) refund. KC has offered me the new variation in its place while keeping my pre-order slot intact.

I hear you. I like your Ferrari to Maserati/Alfa Romeo analogy and I think it's apt.

It's a real pity that, due to production issues, the 0777 has been discontinued and thus many will not be able to partake in this magnificent piece.

Good news is that the replacement 0777M390 will have the same excellent lower half while the upper will be one solid piece of M390 so an even stronger blade.

Unfortunately, what makes the 0777 stunning is the composite blade / Damascus top aesthetically and seamlessly merging with the carbon fiber scales. So, undoubtedly you'll lose a lot in the aesthetics and uniqueness departments.

Ammiraglio -

I understand your frustration, but I would suggest that this situation is more like you ordered a Ferrari with a high-end custom paint job, and you ended up getting a red one. It's still a Ferrari, but it lost a cool aesthetic feature. Functionally it is the same if not a little better. The 0777M390 still has the same carbon fiber handles, machined Titanium clip, machined titanium lockbar with the exclusive adjustable lockbar puck, same polished hardware, KVT, etc. The blade is really the only difference - true, it's a significant one, but the knife is still a very exclusive, very exciting piece.

I know this doesn't really help, but it's worth keeping it in perspective.

I honestly would be ready to beg for an M390....thats how desperate I am for a 0777 ='(

The DAM version is extremely similar as to finding a needle in a haystack....never has that saying been more apt...sigh!!!

It's a Ferrari.....Who the hell cares about aesthetics?? I don't!! ;)

By the way, will the name remain the 0777? Or will it become the 0777M390?

Any possibility that the ZT0777 will no longer be a limited edition item? Since the composite blade was the most likely the most difficult part of production, could it be added as a normal production item? What about the possibility of a damascus clad blade, like the Shun kitchen knives? IMO, that would look fantastic.

First time posting in this forum. I have trepidations about posting on such a topic, but I am one of those who loved the composite blade. I understand Jimmer's point and perhaps if I can obtain an M390 bladed version I'll be OK with it.

I'm an engineer myself, so I understand something about production difficulties (I do airplanes). Sometimes, what you promised to the customer just can't be done at a decent cost. Sometimes, it can't be done at all. Been there, done that, have a closet full of t-shirts to testify, know all the words to the Broadway musical.

But, I still want the composite blade. Badly. I'm jonsing hard for it. I'm sure I'll get over it, scarred, but still alive. Battered, but unbowed. OK, maybe a little bowed.

I'll also say I've got a 0550, a 0561, a 0560CBCF, a 0600, and an 0801. Looking forward to the 0801CF. But, still want a composite blade 0777. I know, I know. I shouldn't. But, I do. Kai, I don't love you any the less for this gaping hole in my soul. It's not your fault.

Hi. My name is Neil, and I'm a knife addict....
