Glocks. mmm. they're okay.

Steyr is better :D

Glock noticed and copied some features ;)

though imho Springfield XDM 5.25 is damn fine

whatever fits your hands best though

Springfield XD was my favorite pistol out of every one i owned, back when i could own a gun. M&P was pretty close to that though and 3rd place went to the ruger P345D. The P345D was the first handgun i bought, and i got it the day i signed up to get my concealed weapons permit. It was a sweet pistol as well, i just preferred the other 2 more for carry. All of them shot great for me though.

I never owned a glock, they just didnt sit right in my hands. The buddy i was with when i bought my Ruger bough him a glock and he loved the feel of it.

So I got some awesome news today. The agency I work for normally does the the from Christmas to New years off paid. Which is awesome. Plus then we get overtime for any assignment we do take. So like NYE I'm working 8 hours but it's paid time and a half which is cool already. Today though the boss decided all staff is off till the 5th of January.

I've been looking pretty hard at handguns recently, I'm a huge fan of the 1911 and the .45 APC round, but I also really like the look and feel of the newer polymer guns, so i started looking at the glock 21 and 36, then I saw the S&W M&P 45. Man that's a sexy gun

Before buying any of them l would suggest signing up for the forums of the guns you are looking at and reading people's experiences with them.

Before buying any id suggest going and shooting them at a local range... Lots of places have guns you can rent and try them. If you cant find a place that does that id at least put them all in hand and see which works best for you. Other people's experience can help... But nothing you can read can substitute for hands on!!

I definintly will when the time comes, but unfortunately I'm not 18 nor do I have the money, so it'll be awhile before I get one

That too for sure, I was thinking about for "long term" issues, and reliability that don't make themselves known right away when you are putting 300 rounds down a lane.

I had an XD .45 compact. It didn't excite me so I sold it. Had a P345 too. I liked that one but after it broke it really turned me off to superfluous safety features. That's why I like the Glock so much, nothing in it that doesn't have to be there. I wouldn't mind an M&P without a manual safety and mag disconnect. A buddy has one with an Apex trigger, dang nice shooter.

My first pistol ever was a Ruger P95dc that I still have. That thing is a champ. I'd love to get a P97dc.

That's a lot of partying. Get to it!

1911's are a little more involved than most guns. The parts usually have to be fitted instead of just dropping in and stripping them is a little harder. I'd say go polymer first and let that scratch the itch and do a lot of research before getting a 1911. Can't go wrong with a Glock or M&P.

Oh trust me! That is NOT an issue! I have a cabin rented for 3 days, I also have some other stuff lined up. It's going to be a GOOD break, and then ten days after that I'm going to Chicago for the weekend, for the the Boat show. Then a month after that going to Chicago again for the car show which is going to be EPIC because I'm going to be taking Matt and Beth and Miss with too. So one day at the auto show and 3 days in Chicago with my 3 favorite friends.

That's what I was thinking, I have a little experience with 1911's. My dad has a colt gold cup model.

He carried a 1911 every day while in Vietnam, so he's showed me how to field strip and clean it, and you're right, it is a complicated weapon

I don't really want a .40, but those 22 trade-ins are pretty cheap.
I wasn't planning on a .40, but it was a birthday gift from my dad about 8 years ago. He got a screaming deal on it through a friend of his at the shop and aside form the holster wear, it was in excellent shape.

Steyr is better :D
 Steyrs are pretty sweet. I love the triangle sights.

Solid advice you have there.

I have waited a long time to lay hold of a traditional 1911, and am in the process of doing just that. There is a Colt government model with my name on it in the layaway penalty box even now.

(No not this one! :D)

Man, I'd love to have a WW2 era colt.

I really wish battle horse would make the western drover, I may have to commission a local maker to make something similar

Congrats to bigghoss for the new shootin' iron/plastic and to tanglediver for the impending procurement.

I happened to get some Para's in today for couple guys at work (Expert in FDE), and also tacked on a Para Expert Commander for myself... The prices on all were too good to pass up. But I also do love my XD(m) like Bladite. It fits my hand better than the G17 or G19.

i forgot something important!

then remembered!

daddy needs a Wetterlings Bushman aka Les Stroud :D

second generation of course

time to find some deals :D
