"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

LOL! I've had whole months like that! :D I certainly got around doing The Wizard's Quest, but it set me back about two year's financially!

(This is the last instalment - there are 19 preceding threads, and it took me 6 months! - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...st-part-20-theres-no-place-like-home.1179980/)

Well at least it had a happy ending :)

And then the BF software changes a few years back messed up all the threads! o_O
Okay, I'm three threads into it... This could take a while. I'm sad the pictures are lost though. Very entertaining so far.

I was reading back through some of the first posts of this thread...from 2010. One of the main topics in the beginning was all the GAWs at the time and it seemed like it was a newer thing at the time. Were there no GAWs before then? Have GAWs been happening ever since then? I haven't won anything in a GAW here but they are all fun and I am always excited for the winner. I really enjoyed the GAW I just did and can't wait to do another one. It would be kinda cool to have a running list of all the past occurrences. Anywho...just trying to redirect the conversation a little :)

It’s pretty amazing, isn’t it? I’ve been here for two and a half years now and there’s usually been at least one active. I remember waiting for none to be active before hosting my first GAW because I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but finally had to give up and jump in. :)

Honestly, though, the give aways are just a tiny part of what makes the porch, as one member put it, a special corner of the internet. I’ve learned so much here and felt so welcomed. What a great place.

You all inspired me to finally pull the trigger on the GAW I've been meaning to do for a while...

It really is. And it isn't even the actual stuff that is being given away it is the huge amount of generosity and good kharma around here. I've only done one GAW here but just started another on a FB group and have been paying it forward to others outside of BF as well (gifting knives). I tend to gravitate towards people and communities that are altruistic by nature and is why I'm a member of the Elks Lodge and also why I spend time here on the porch.

I spent a fun and beautiful evening watching our local high school's football game. My son was on the team until he had to choose between the band and football, he chose band to the dismay of his football coaches. So I'm there to watch some good high school football and cheer for the band. It's fun because we know all the players on both the football team and in the band, and we socialize with a lot of the parents. Great night out.

First has anyone heard anything from Jake @supratentorial I just checked and his last post was on June 27. I sure hope he's okay.

I had some car trouble this morning and had to have my son come and take it to fix it for me he got back a little while ago and have been reading threads all day. I have not been around here much in a long time and see some new faces and missing some of the old ones. I've been a member here about 3 and a 1/2 years and lurked here for probably 2 years before that. During that time it's unbelievable how many folks have came and gone. I remember the day I decided to join it was May 23, 2015 a dreary rainy Sunday I had around 60 knives all of which were junk except for a few. As I started culling the junk I had these (pictured from around the 1st of June) left plus a Buck 110 and an old sheath knife my dad had given to me when I was young. At the high point of my collection I had around 400 knives and now I have about 70 of which about 98% of them have been gifted to me by members here. I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge from this forum but more important I've made a lot of friends here. I have no idea how many GAW's I've hosted nor how many knives I've gifted but it's been a lot. I've never missed any of those knives but sure got a lot of enjoyment knowing I made someone's day. I have had nothing but reward from joining this forum and am so glad I did. When I joined I had no idea what a TC was but I sure do now. :D:cool:

Funny you should mention Jake just now. I was wondering the same thing about him this morning. I hope your car repair efforts were successful Randy. Glad your kicked back on the porch again. :)

edit - Which brings (again) to mind the absence of Primble.:(

Off to this today. My son told me he is looking forward to being among "his people" :) (he is part Scot with red hair)

That looks like great fun, hope you had a fantastic time :)

I hope Jake will be back soon :) Sadly, we do sometimes lose long-term members, and I think there's a real sense of loss when that happens. Sometimes they come back though :)

@Stich2442 , @pmew , @Old & In The Way , @pertinux , @VanGuard, @silenthunterstudios , where are you?! :(

Jack Black Jack Black speaking of folks in the past... was wondering about some of the cast of characters found during your epic Wizard's Quest. It's been about five years. Mr and Mrs Miserygut, Madame Gi-Gi, the odd couple... how do they fair these days?

Man, I just love modern air travel. It is the best experience you could ever ask for.
Also, if you ever need to sleep on the floor in the Denver airport overnight, I recommend the C-concourse mezzanine. Fairly quiet, a few darker corners, and the carpet is regularly vacuumed. Not that anyone asked, but it just popped into my head for some reason.

I've slept in that airport before :) I don't remember which concourse but me and my son were stuck there for close to 10 hrs for a delay. I do remember the airport was clean and comfortable.
