"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I was reading back through some of the first posts of this thread...from 2010. One of the main topics in the beginning was all the GAWs at the time and it seemed like it was a newer thing at the time. Were there no GAWs before then? Have GAWs been happening ever since then? I haven't won anything in a GAW here but they are all fun and I am always excited for the winner. I really enjoyed the GAW I just did and can't wait to do another one. It would be kinda cool to have a running list of all the past occurrences. Anywho...just trying to redirect the conversation a little :)

Gentlemen, may I remind you that we have ladies who share our love of traditional knives. This is not the place to discuss the pulchritude of various movie and TV maidens. Whine and Cheese is the proper venue for that.

Fair point Frank :D

The GAW's have been a pretty regular occurrence since I joined, which was shortly after this thread was started. They tend to go in spurts and sometimes there have been 5 or 6 going on at the same time.

I agree that they are fun for the host too. I think the last one I did on this forum was one that the contestants had to guess the mileage on my car. I think I had more fun than the contestants.

Boy all that symbolism and meaning... guess that's why I watched The Monkee's :D No thinking required for that show!
That sounds like a challenge to me. ;) My brother studied Western Literature, and I was taking some social anthropology courses, and we used to drink beer and dare each other to find the "deeper meaning" in the most banal TV shows! Back before the internet, kids had to make their own fun. :D
R8shell the answer you seek to that question can be found in the return series and feature length movie of Gilligans Island...a cinematic masterpiece without parallel.
Now ...who remembers the awesome precursor...Dustys Trail..? feat Gilligan as Dusty..a bumbling simpleton on a stagecoach...with Forrest Tucker as the Wagon master and an array of idiotic passengers.....sound familiar?
Oh yeah the gorilla suit guy had as bear suit in t his one.
I don't think I've seen that one, but I remember "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis"

Watch Harry Enfield,Martin "doc martin" Clunes and some other dude take out The Persuaders, The Saint, and The avengers in one swell foop.

I've always found it somewhat bizarre that Peter Wyngarde's character 'Jason King' was the basis for the en masse decision of 70's parents to name their male offspring 'Jason', therby re-popularising a rather obscure christian name

I always just thought that the Monkees were sort of a "Spinal Tap" like spoof on the Beatles with a little "Scooby Doo & Friends" mixed in which resulted in accidental popularity and success :D

Sounds about right, except Monkees predated Scooby Doo. Strange but sometimes funny show. Best episode was "The Devil and Peter Tork", wherein Peter makes a Faustian deal so he can play the harp.

I remember that one! :D When I was five (I think), the local radio station played 'Last Train to Clarksville' for my birthday - only because it was a request show I hasten to add! :D

I'm glad it's not a real porch, I would just sit there all day and never get anything done.

LOL! I've had whole months like that! :D I certainly got around doing The Wizard's Quest, but it set me back about two year's financially!

(This is the last instalment - there are 19 preceding threads, and it took me 6 months! - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...st-part-20-theres-no-place-like-home.1179980/)

Well at least it had a happy ending :)

And then the BF software changes a few years back messed up all the threads! o_O
