"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

My paternal grandmother always gave us peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches for afternoon snack. Most people think it sounds awful, but I've never had anyone try it that didn't like it. I still have about 2 or 3 a week, open-faced on toast.

Peanut butter, lettuce and mayonnaise is what our ma gave us instead of pb&j. The other two were watercress and cream cheese, and chopped black olives and cream cheese. For breakfast my pop made peanut butter and regular butter on wheat toast, sliced into fingers about 3/4” wide, which made them taste much better.

You guys are a little slow to come around... ;):p:cool::):D:D:D:D

LOL! :D  It's been pretty popular here all my lifetime, but I think consumption per capita is only about a third of what it is in the US

That's amazing!

I guess taste is chaining in the old country, and I read a very disquieting piece of news. that tea consumption has fallen and coffee consumption has doubles and is increasing. That is quiet disturbing to my very fond memories of England and those lovely tea rooms. What will they call afternoon teas, 'high coffee?"

As a closet Anglophile I think some institutions should remain untouched.

Coffee consumption has absolutely rocketed during my lifetime Carl, but particularly in the past fifteen years. The tea rooms are still there though :)

I think that's in Amsterdam. :D

:D :D

Wonderful! :) That was a very generous giveaway, as well as a fun one :)

Once when accepting an invitation to join a Canadian for lunch I was served peanut butter and cucumbers sandwiches. Sounded strange but it was wonderful. Cukes moistens the peanut butter making it easier to swallow and I've been eating those sandwiches from time to time ever since. I don't know if it's a Canadian thing or not but I have not found another soul who has heard of it and very few willing to try it. ???

Put a fresh crispy cream doughnut on a plate, fill the hole with creamy peanut butter spread some on it, microwave for like 10 seconds( don't take but a few seconds to get beyond critical "burn you bad" temp so be careful) its sooooo good.
Feel some guilty posting after Gevonovich Gevonovich trying to help us not kill ourselves. I do appreciate the post, I do take a mild blood pressure med, that also relaxes my heart as I developed a slight arrhythmia. Recently had to get my checkup to renew my meds. They did blood work, cept for the slightly high bp everything else is normal. I was worried about the diabetes test as it runs in my family. But it was negative

My grandfather used to make and give us mayo, lettuce, and banana sandwiches. I haven't had one since I was single-digits in age, so I have no clue if it was any good.

I love experimenting with flavor combinations, and I tried A LOT of different combinations when I was... uhh... under the influence... during college. Bacon and peanut butter on toast was great, and so were hamburgers stuffed with Hershey's chocolate.

Never did mayo on a PB sandwich although one of my dad's favorites was peanut butter and dill pickle. Quite tasty if you ask me. I will still eat one every few weeks as a snack.

Never was a big fan of peanut butter and jelly.

My boys would eat their weight in Nutella but it's too rich and sweet for me.

My favorite snack is some summer sausage or salamu with some sharp white cheddar on crackers.

I've never tried (or even heard of, before today) PB & mayo, but I like PB & mustard. (I like mustard on almost any sandwich.)

Most mornings I have PB & honey on toast (and put on banana slices if available). I love the taste, but I didn't like how messy PB and honey tended to get as the honey slid off the PB. But my life changed for the better a couple of years ago when I realized I could put the honey on the toast FIRST, where it would soak in, and then spread PB on top of it!!:rolleyes:

Back when I still worked for a living I remember one of the players at the firehouse making up peanut butter and banana sandwiches and battering and deep frying them (yes I know Gev), then sprinkled powdered sugar on em and served em with a raspberry dip.

Man o man...talk about decadence! Sounds so good

Enough of this ! The big question. The question that needs answering once and for all...is...
Crunchy or Smoothy?

I just assumed that was a given. Crunchy, of course. Extra crunchy. I think the one we buy is called “Super Chunk.” :D

I’ve never had peanut butter and mayonnaise, but my grandma used to make us grilled cheese with mayo. (Actually, I’m pretty sure she used Miracle Whip.) I still like it that way; it’s delicious!
