"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Nobody is against getting sentimental in this part of BF
Your work is amazing, and you should just be proud of it.
As for selling things...I was never sure about the path of turning a passion or hobby into a "job".
It worked for some people, that's for sure, but, to others, it just took away the pleasure of doing something just for the good of doing it, or for making a nice gift...and, personally, and unless you really need to sell your carvings, I would never let that happen.
By the way...if you ever wondered about sharing with us some other "product" of your carving hours...well stop wondering and post more pics :)

Guys, Do me a little favor and Google the name "Vaclav Havel" and then say a little prayer for this great man, who just died. My wife's country -- and indeed the world -- is a poorer place for his death. :(

I had no idea that he had died actually. Seeing things from the outside of a country is different than living inside of it and experiencing what happens, but at least from the outside he did seem a great man and a charismatic leader too.

Well, believe it or not, we finally got our Christmas decorations up on Saturday night. The wife and I have been traveling, and just could not get to it any sooner. Here is a picture of our fireplace, complete with stockings for us and the grandkids. Oh . . . the star of the show is little GG (short for Giada Girl) my wife's darling little Maltese.

Robert, if your cat is anything like the ones we've had in the past, it's worn out from chewing on all the bows on the packages!

LOL! he usually gnaws on the boxes and wrapping...we'll go to open something and on the corners will be teeth holes everywhere! :D

Kevin, that is a beautiful bit of wood art. Carl has it right. I saw it and instantly could see it on a large scale in a modern art museum. The care in the finishing of it really takes it that extra step. A lot of folks would have just put one coat of something on it, if that. Five coats of spar coat means attention to detail and that it is finished fully. I bet gran is gonna really love it for not only the beauty, but the amount of you that was put into it.

Mark, I did goggle this fine man. Impressive. I like that it is said about him that he was never fully comfortable about being in power. When the seat fits too well, you probably don't belong there in such cases. Sure wish we could have someone with those ethics and principles running for office here now.

Thanks again so much. It is really nice to see so much appreciation :)

My grandmother absolutely loves it :)

:emot-yarr: MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! :emot-yarr:

Hope everyone enjoys their day and that there is at least 1 folder awaiting you under the tree. ;)

It's early into Christmas (not even 1am) but its a kinda Christmas related...last year while we were apart I had her made a custom silver necklace from a book she loves which she got for xmas 2010. Anyways a month or so ago she lost it, went to the police, everywhere we had been, every possible place it might have fallen. Not but 10 mins into xmas I went to fill her stocking and where was it? behind her stocking on the hanger!!! needless to say I believe Christmas miracles happen after that, we had assumed it was lost and found by someone else.

Have a great day folks.

Cool story Robert, thanks for sharing.

Merry Christmas everyone - be safe, stay warm & enjoy your loved ones.

I also wanted to extend Christmas cheers to everyone here on BF. My family and I are truly blessed for the friends and acquaintances that we have found here.

Happy Holidays!
