"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Thanks a lot Will, I'm carrying it today :) :thumbsup:

One of the finer examples of the Salmon acrylic I've seen, Jack. Nice holiday haul!

Checked on the rescued knife this morning and got a few tools open. Stainless china stamp. Washed with soapy water and put another healthy coating of WD 40 and back into the “frozen” baggy.

Those litke wire bristle brushes might help scrub out the joints and clear since if the surface rust from them. You see them in gun cleaning kits and at hardware stores. A lot of that red Rusty should come off of there with Ronnie grease (elbow grease, but I didn't want to correct autocorrect, who also picked "Rusty").

A gray day in San Diego...

Nice view. We had similar weather here in Asheville mountains today. Kinda overcast with sun peeking through. One of the nice things about this room I'm in is the view, lots of the South and West mountain ranges in sight. There would be rays of golden sunlight beaming down in the South, and then some Dusty snow clouds roll in over the West and make the mountains disappear for a few moments.

My father-in-law has plenty of guns and cleaning kit stuff, so I will definitely be able to get my hands on a wire brush. Once I freed the tools that I did the action was very loose. I think the rust build-up may have expanded some of the fitting. This little Chinese SAK may fall apart once the rust isn't there to hold it together!

Hi all. Long time no 'see'.

To continue the 'how I got here' theme;
I was looking to find some definitive information, that I felt needed an experienced answer rather than theoretical.
I got it elsewhere on the forum, and kind of hung around. Found the Trad, SAK & Multitool Forums. This one in particular just suits me. And while I drift away from time to time, I doubt it'll ever be permanent.

Had to give up - at least for now - on my quest to have every one of the forum knives though. :(

Oh yeah, not to distract from Traumkommode's health (I don't think we've 'met', but hope you get well man) but;

I had a heart attack in September. I'm damned lucky to see this Christmas.
Guys, please look up & learn the symptoms, they're not always obvious. In my case I thought I had trapped wind at first. If I'd ignored it & carried on another 1/2 hour, I wouldn't be here.

Happy Christmas (or whatever's appropriate) everyone.

Got all of the tools open. I’m probably going to stop here. The liners are completely rusted and I’m not sure what I’d do with this knife anyhow.

Any suggestions?
So far, so good! :thumbsup::cool: Joshua, I think you said it's pretty loose, so probably not usable even if you clean it up more. But you could keep working on it as "practice" to see what clean-up techniques work for you. (Or would you trust one or more of your boys with it? At their age, I'd have gotten some good entertainment from a knife like that, even in less-than-optimal condition.)

I might ask my father-in-law for one of his wire brushes to finish it off. I had the thought of my boys, particularly for my youngest son, who can’t have a sharp knife yet. I know he would like it, but it may still be something he could do damage with. My older boys have better knives and may not be interested.
