"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Merry Christmas to all and to all a question. Does this come with a pocket slip or a pickup truck?View attachment 1043309

What a beast! :D Here's my biggie ;)

I suddenly realized that I never updated "Carl's Lounge" on how things turned out with my missing Joker stag lockback. Here are a couple of pics of the knife that eventually arrived to replace whatever the little gizmo was that showed up in the knife box.

You got a nice one there GT

Rachel gave me a knife for Christmas, a Condor Huron, but it didn't look anything like this (random pic filched from the web)...

Based on the packaging, it appeared to be a knife which had previously been returned. I have a number of Condor Knives, and I thought that they had their QC issues fixed, but the fit and finish on this knife was appalling - blunt as a butter knife (even the point was blunt), with really ugly uneven grinds, the blade was actually rusty, the brass oxidised, the handle scales were uneven and badly-fitted - basically just a piece of junk :(

Spent an awesome day with my two favorite ladies... my Mom and my wife. As usual I was head chef for the day which started out with one of my favorite brunch dishes, Krupsua, a Finnish take on a pancake made in the oven :) We topped it with blueberry syrup.

After brunch it was Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie on TV followed up with baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie :D
Ahhh best time of the day : watching the after meal tv.(aka comatosing):p:D

That turned out for the good. Beautiful stag. BTW I think that contraption is a serial bus or adapter for an old computer.
Wow! That's some nice stag. Worth the wait, I'd think.
Did you get to keep the gizmo?
Really cool knife!

Thanks for the positive comments about my new little stag lockback from Joker, folks! :) I think the first Joker knife I ever saw was posted by Jack Black Jack Black and I decided to try to find a similar one when I went to visit my daughter in Spain. I eventually picked up several Joker knives with which I'm very pleased, so I was excited to find that one of my favorite US dealers now carries Joker knives. I ordered a couple of horn Jokers and a couple of stag Jokers last month and they're all excellent IMHO (although one of the pins on the pile side stag is quite proud on the knife I posted yesterday).

Jack, sorry to hear about your disappointment with the Condor knife. :(

Del... here is my Mom's recipe (if you can read her cursive writing o_O), I used 1-1/2 cups of flour and I don't think you need a full stick of butter... 1/2 to 3/4 stick is fine; It's really just to prevent it from sticking to the pan. FYI... OLEO = BUTTER :D The final consistency of it is not like a traditional pancake, it will be more like the consistency of a pumpkin pie. It is good with any type of berry topping or syrup, regular syrup and some people top it with whip cream too ;)

My grandma’s cookie recipe, which we recently made for Christmas, calls for Oleo, as well. I’m sure she used margarine, but we just use butter. I should’ve taken a picture of some of the cookies, but they always disappear rather quickly! :D

Got my cousin's Christmas card/letter. His perfect daughter, and she really is perfect, though I used to roll my eyes at those Christmas letters until I met the kid a few years ago for the first time since she was 18" tall, spent the summer as Director of the Robin Hood outpost at a BSA Reservation, teaching archery and dagger-throwing.

So I'll moderate my despair at kids today and the eviscerated scouting organizations.

For freshman orientation she went rock-climbing and spelunking.

That is pretty awesome. Sounds like she is a heck of a young lady, and that sounds like a heck of a youth organization.

You know what else made me very happy today? One of my friends posted this High Fructose Muad'Dib on Facebook today, and I responded with your signature phrase: "I am the Kumquats Haagendazs!" It tickled me immensely.

On my way to Seattle to watch my beloved Seahawks play their last regular season game. Waking up in Grants Pass Oregon after an eight hour drive. Heading to Portland today and on to Seattle tomorrow. Road trips are fun but I'm sure I'll be pretty wiped out by the time I get home. The old body doesn't handle traveling as well as it used to.

My old body had a heck of a time on the ladder today (finally cleared the eaves, probably just in time).
By the way, can we say "he*l"? I'm thinking of changing my avatar.
