• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Awesome shot, Gary !!!

Nice picture, Gary! Good camera?
Thanks, Charlie. I used a little Panasonic Lumix Travel Camera that has a 60x zoom lens and mounted it on a tripod. The moon was near the horizon so I got the light scattering effect of the atmosphere that makes it appear orange.
Mostly it was the timing and dumb luck. :)

Thanks Gary! People wait for hours to get shots like that!! Nice going!!

Middle America is Still Traditional

I recently switched jobs and am now delivering meals for a local store that has a thriving catering business. Today I had a delivery at a hospital in Pinckneyville, IL. This small town was in the news the past few days for one of its residents, a 37 year old mother of 5 and army reservist who was killed in an accident in Kuwait. I wondered if I would run into a delay on my delivery, as the funeral was this morning. As I neared the town on a state highway, American flags appeared along the road on both sides, at intervals of about 25 yards. This continued, non-stop, for the last 5 miles into town, and then another half mile to the town square. Traffic was indeed stopped at this juncture, for the funeral procession was passing down Main Street. This made me late for my delivery, but everyone at the hospital understood. At least in the Midwest, people, and even whole towns, still get it. Heroes do deserve their honors.
