"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I'm out in the woods clearing some new trails and I came across a thorn bush like I have never seen. Anyone know what it is? The pic is straight off my cell and its not photoshopped.

First full gardening day of the (almost) spring today! Chucked 380 liters of compost and mulch and did a fair bit of trimming, snipping, weeding, turning soil, etc. My peanut loved the workout. :-) Anyone else here enjoy garden work?

Hi Mark! It's not quite gardening weather yet in Iowa, but yeah I love digging around in the dirt!

We've had a very mild winter so far, but got a beautiful snowfall today. I snapped a pic of a couple deer in our backyard:

Not a drop of snow here but on the way home from work I saw about 9 doe white tail, 3 fawn and a buck...never seen that many in one place before! Kicking myself for my SLR not being in the car! :(

No snow here, just balmy spring like temperatures Saturday, with a chilly day Sunday. It's been a very very mild winter and some of the flowers are starting to pop up. Daffodils are putting shoots up. We had virtually no snow this winter, I think I had to use a snow shovel once for the inch of stuff we had. Now, tell me again what is the bad points of global warming?:)

Time to break out the canoe.

Carl.

I'd be more likely to invest in a good jacket :p the balmy calm before the frost.

Don't know if any of you guys like scary movies, but I'm gonna ask anyway. Have you ever had a moment when you go off to do something and realize that if you were in a horror movie you would have just died, and to make it worse, not only would you die but you would be the guy (or gal) that everybody knows is gonna die before it happens?

I had a moment like that today.

My plants power went down and the offices area was hit too, so while sitting around wait for my PC to regain power i figure I would go get some coffee. The coffee however is down in the furthest part of the IT area and there are no widows or emergency lights... So as I try to get some coffee by the light of my cell phone I realize I would have been the first one to go in a horror movie....

Sorry that was long winded but i felt like sharing. :o :D

haha

one day, after watching the walking dead the night before, i was sitting in my truck and decided I was gonna take a break and read for a few minutes
so i am reading and i start hearing some rustling and i am looking around and i dont see anything.

so i keep reading and the rustling sounds like it is coming from RIGHT BESIDE ME. I FLIP OUT, may have done a little manly scream or something. Jump out and the squirrel that was digging right under my truck door hauled arse towards the nearest tree.

does that count?

yeah i believe the book was a zombie novel too
i like zombies :P

but it probably didnt help my nerves any!

I remember going into a building and it looked like the hallways in the shining (Mick Garris version, I loathe the Kubrick shining) and it kinda freeked me out...I do love zombie culture and when I worked security and was in the middle of a BUSY city that would just empty on a Friday morning (like 4am) you would walk around imagining a zombie infestation lol

Heys guys, I didn't wanna make a new thread for this so I figured I'd ask here real quick. I'd like to remove the lettering on my Queen Mountain Man and I was wondering if it would just polish right out or if it needed to be sanded?

I just use a 2000 grit paper, its light enough to not scuff it all up requiring further polishing. Save the old paper for when its almost gone and use them for the final polish.

Do you have a picture of the foliage, Kevin? The wood looks similar to agarita, but I'd have to see the leaves to be sure.

Your coffee story reminds me of one about my dad (maybe it's an Indiana thing?)

We lost power during a thunderstorm once and after a while my mom noticed that my dad was not anywhere nearby. As she went through the house looking for him, she found him standing out in the back room holding open the door to the upright freezer. Confused by this, she asked him what in the world was he doing.

His response? "I'm waiting for the next lightning strike so I can see where the ice cream is."

Hi James, and thanks for your response. I didn't notice any foliage. I will take a hike back down and see what I see. Im not sure that I will have any luck identifying with foliage here in MD in March, but I will give it a shot.

Thanks.

I went downstairs to use the treadmill for awhile and caught this out the back window. If I ever need to hunt for food, I won't have to go far. :D

Thats cool Gary! Thats how it is where I live. The deer and wildlife are like pets they are so tame. It would NOT be hunting ;)
