I suppose weed wacking IS better than shoveling snow. But it still sucks. Spring is in full swing in San Diego. To paraphrase Mr. Hammerstein, "the weeds are as high as an elephant's eye, and they looks like they're climbing clear up to the sky."

Kinda random but I've taken interest in hand-made items of all sorts...not just knives. Something that caught my attention was the Ernest Wright scissors out of Sheffield. Quite a back-story to it all...not all pleasant but interesting enough. Anyway, they are producing again these days and I had an opportunity to order one of the three designs they offer.

Learnt a sad news today, Jean Issard left us last thursday. The name is probably unknown to fellow US readers, but he was the last of a great family of cutlers since the '20s, established in La Monnerie, a few km from Thiers up in the mountain.
His last job he assembled the bouledogue for a French forum's knife in 2015. So long, Jean and thank you. :(
Here's a footage where he speaks of his life and cutlery, in fact his life was part of Thiers cutlery. Not in English, but period pictures and films are rare.

Very sorry to hear that JP, a great loss :( Thank you though, for sharing the sad news, and for once again providing a link to that fascinating film

I don't think this is worth its own thread, but all the talk of large, single-bladed Eurotrads got me thinking about these.

Single flat-ground liner-lock Craftsman, unmarked marvel, Irish Imperial.
The Barlow has two pins in the bolster because I can't solder.
All three are nice, but that one in the middle, is a marvel.

I am finally back in full swing sorry I've been gone for awhile but sometimes life can throw you a curve ball and changes your routine. Anyway I sure miss this forum when I have to be away for awhile.

i received the Case barlows I ordered from @knifeswapper and was very pleased I'm going to see if someone has started a thread about them. That's another thing being away for a awhile you don't know what's been happening.

I have eclectic tastes in music (knives, too. But you folks already knew that.)
Here's an oddity for you...
There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend. Those with loaded guns and those who sing.

Looks like Eli Wallach didn't get away this time.

If I ever have to face Clint Eastwood, I'll draw while he's rearranging his poncho with his gun-hand.
